Kirinyaga University
College, the successor to the Kirinyaga Technical Institute (KTI), was
established by the Kenya Government through The Kirinyaga University College
Order, Legal Notice No. 108 of September 2011 as a constituent college of Jomo
Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
The University College
is located approximately 120km North East of Nairobi off Nairobi Sagana-
Embu-Highway in Kutus Town of Kirinyaga County.
The location offers a
serene academic, research and learning environment at the foothills of Mount
Kenya.
The University College
Council seeks to appoint suitable candidates to the positions of;
(i) Principal,
(ii) Deputy Principal,
Academic Affairs,
(iii) Deputy
Principal, Administration & Finance
Principal of College
Principal of College

The appointed pioneer
Principal will be a dynamic, visionary and result oriented person of high
ethical standards, integrity and professionalism.
The Principal will
have the overall mandate of establishing a strong academic, research and
administrative foundation for the University College.
Duties and Responsibilities
As the Chief Executive
of the University College, the Principal will be the academic, research and
administrative Head of the College working under the direction of the Council
with the following duties and responsibilities;
- Have
overall responsibility on the direction, organization and the
administration of academic programs of the University College;
- Coordinate
the development and implementation of the academic and administrative
policies of the University College in accordance with the University
Master Plan and Strategic Plan
- Maintain
efficiency and good order of the University College and ensure proper
enforcement of the Statutes and other College Regulations;
- Provide
innovative and creative leadership in the areas of finance, human
resource, planning and infrastructural development, students’ affairs management
and community linkages.
- Play a
key role in the facilitation and maintenance of linkages with
government/regulatory agencies and other local/international institutions
of higher learning
- Perform
other duties as may be assigned by the University College Council from
time to time.
Requirements:
Applicants must;
- Be
holders of a PhD and be Professors or Associate Professors in the areas of
science, technology and related fields,
- Be well
published and academic leaders in their areas of specialization;
- Have at
least ten (10) years of academic and research experience at senior level
and possess demonstrated capacity for leadership in an academic and/or
research institution;
- Be
familiar with national, regional and global current trends of policies
governing higher education;
- Demonstrate
ability to plan, develop and implement academic programs and institutional
linkages.
- Be
registered with and be active members of professional associations in
their areas of specialization;
- Have
excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
- Demonstrate
ability in fundraising, resource mobilization and fund management
Deputy Principal - Academic Affairs
Ref. KY.U.C/02/2012:
The appointed Deputy
Principal, Academic Affairs will be a visionary, dynamic and result -oriented
academician.
The successful
candidate will work under the Principal and will be responsible for all
academic matters and programs including student affairs.
Duties and Responsibilities
As the head of the
Division of Academic Affairs, the Deputy Principal, Academic Affairs will have
the following duties and responsibilities;
- Direct,
organize and administer academic programs of the University College;
- Develop
and implement the academic policies of the University College in
accordance with the University Master Plan and Strategic Plan
- Perform
other duties as may be assigned by the Principal and the University
College Council from time to time.
Requirements:
Applicants must;
- Be
holders of a PhD and be Professors or Associate Professors in areas of
science, technology and related fields;
- Have at
least eight years’ experience in senior and administrative academic
positions;
- Demonstrate
capacity for progressive and innovative leadership in technological areas
and have the ability to promote learning, teaching, research and
development;
- Be well
published and academic leaders in their areas of specialization;
- Demonstrate
ability to plan, develop and implement academic programs;
- Be
registered with and be active members of professional associations in
their areas of specialization;
- Have
good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
- Be
familiar with national, regional and global current trends of policies
governing higher education.
Deputy Principal - Administration and Finance

Reporting to the
Principal of the College, the Deputy Principal, Administration and Finance will
be responsible for administration, planning and development, finance and staff
matters.
Duties and Responsibilities
As the head of the Division
of Administration and Finance, the Deputy Principal, Administration and Finance
will have the following duties and responsibilities;
- Direct
and organize the administration and financial aspects of the University
College;
- Co-ordinate
the development and implementation of the administrative policies of the
University College in accordance with the University Master Plan and
Strategic Plan;
- Maintain
efficiency and good order of the University College and ensure proper
enforcement of the Statutes and Regulations;
- Provide
innovative and creative leadership in the areas of finance, human
resources, planning and infrastructural development, students’ affairs
management and community linkages;
- Perform
other duties as may be assigned by the Principal and the University
College Council from time to time.
Requirements:
Applicants must;
- Be
holders of a PhD and be Professors or Associate Professors with at least
eight years academic and administrative experience at senior level;
- Possess
demonstrated capacity for leadership in an academic and/or research
institution;
- Possess
ability to plan, develop and implement institutional administration and
development;
- Have
proven capacity to promote learning, teaching, research and development in
a university setting.
- Be familiar
with national, regional and global current trends of policies governing
higher education.
- Have
good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Candidates
who are holders of an MBA or its equivalent will have an added advantage.
Terms & Conditions of Service
Successful candidates
for the three positions will be offered a competitive remuneration package,
including house allowance, medical benefits, gratuity and other benefits in
accordance with the University College terms of service.
The appointments will
be for a contractual period of five (5) years renewable once for a further
period of five (5) years subject to satisfactory performance appraisal by the
University Council.
