Head of Software Development and Chief Information Officer
Overview of Position
Kimetrica is a fast growing technology company headquartered in
Nairobi, Kenya with offices in the US.
Most of our software is online and Kimetrica invests heavily in
research and development to ensure that our solutions and services keep pace
with changing technologies and client needs.
We have a highly motivated team of 20 software developers and
ICT professionals.
Kimetrica is seeking a dynamic and creative software
professional with a strong management background and excellent knowledge of
online database technologies to lead our software development and ICT projects
and processes.
The CIO will report to the Technical Director of Kimetrica.
Key Tasks
1. Manage software development processes (50 percent)
a. Ensure timely delivery and highest attainable quality
standards on all software projects
b. Conduct or lead research into relevant new technologies and
approaches
c. Provide critical application design inputs for Kimetrica
off-the-shelf (ki-suite) and client projects
d. Liaise with clients to develop technical and user
specification documents
e. Analyze user feedback and requirements and ensure that
applications continuously improve and optimize client satisfaction
f. Provide technical guidance to project managers and staff
g. Ensure that best practices are documented and followed (e.g.,
for security, coding standards, GUI design, usability, reliability and
efficiency)
2. Oversee the ICT support services (15 percent)
a. Oversee client help desk operations
b. Oversee internal and external tech support team
c. Oversee server and database configuration and management
3. Contribute to commercial services relating to software
services (15 percent)
a. Provide technical input for all software project proposals
b. Identify and exploit new business opportunities
c. Oversee development of the corporate website and e-marketing
tools
d. As necessary, liaise with clients and managers on software
projects
4. Oversee management of Kimetrica ICT staff and infrastructure
(10 percent)
a. Liaise with HR to ensure a high staff calibre and low
turnover
b. Ensure staff skills are continuously developed
c. Ensure that all ICT and software staff conform with basic
procedures
d. Oversee and advise on infrastructure, hardware, software and
connectivity investments
5. Assist in development of software and ICT strategies and work
plans (10 percent)
a. Develop annual strategic plans and performance reviews
b. Develop and implement project and individual level
performance metrics
c. Contribute to other aspects of software and ICT development
as required
Required Qualifications
- Computer
science degree
- At
least eight years experience in software project design and management
- Experience
with complex online databases
- Excellent
English language communications skills (written and spoken)
- Excellent
management skills
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Postgraduate
degree in computer science, MBA or related discipline preferred
- Experience
with advanced statistical and analytical systems (data mining, neural
networks and geo-statistics)
- Experience
with Geographic Information Systems
- Experience
working with international companies
- Experience
managing software teams and ICT processes
- Track
record in writing winning project proposals
- Right
to live and work in Kenya preferred
