Public Relations Officer
Reports to: Corporate Affairs Manager
Purpose:
To serve as the practical advisor to senior staff in the
development and execution of the University’s communications plan for promoting
its mission.
He/she will enhance the University’s reputation and improve its
understanding of the market position within higher education and the public, as
well as its well-known strengths.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Formulate,
implement and manage an effective public relations and communications
strategy to promote the University’s image and reputation;
- Directing
the coordination of print, electronic and social media communications;
- Take
lead in writing, editing, photography, design and printing; ensuring that
consistency of message and standards of design are met in all official
work of the University;
- Oversee
the consistency of image, tone, and content of all University
communications, publications, and electronic messages;
- Provide
on-going information on the university activities and accomplishments to
be updated in the university website;
- Draft
speeches and talking notes for University executives, and arrange
interviews and other forms of contact for them;
- Maintain
effective media relation, establish and maintain regular contacts with
media representatives to promote the university’s goals;
- Deliver
timely and effective internal communication among staff through range of
channels, ensuring clarity and consistency of messages, newsletters, e –
bulletin etc;
- Foster
community relations through events such as open days and through
involvement in community initiatives as per annual CSR Plan;
- Handling
charity and sponsorship requests; and
- Coordinate
major university events including graduation ceremonies, exhibition etc.
Academic Qualification
- Bachelors
Degree in Journalism, Communication/Public Relations or related field from
a recognized institution
Professional Qualification
- Higher
Diploma in Communications/Public Relations/Journalism or a relevant
professional qualification.
Experience
- At
least 4 years experience with a media house environment, organization or
communications agency
Other skills
- Familiarity
with standards of writing, copy editing and proof reading;
- Having
sound knowledge of media operations and contacts regionally and
nationally;
- Knowledge
of IT Skills and multi – media content;
- Exceptional
communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability
to meet deadlines; and
- Ability
to design publicity materials.
