Job Title: Project Assistant


Organization:

Duty Station:Nairobi, Kenya with possible travel to Somalia


Report to:
 Project Officer


Contract Duration:
 Renewable with satisfactory performance (3month probation)


Duties and Responsibilities


Under the direct supervision of Project Officer/Project Coordinator, Project Assistant is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities;


1. Project Management Support
  • Responsible for the project related tasks assigned by Project Officer (PO) and/or Project Coordinator (PC) in a timely manner, in line with the specific project documents and work plans;
  • Work closely with PO/PC and finance team in managing project budgets, cash flows and contracts/obligations, by tracking use of financial resources in accordance with JCCP financial rules and regulations;
  • Assist PO and/or PC in procurement, stakeholders coordination and reporting;
  • Assist PO/PC in arranging proper project records, including Procurement, HR and Finance as required;
  • Abide by all security protocols applicable to the JCCP Kenya and assist in ensuring their implementation by other project staff.
2. Monitoring and Evaluation Assistance
  • Assist PO/PC to identify, support and develop mechanisms for effective project monitoring and evaluation efforts and systems for information sharing internally and externally;
  • Assist PO/PC to effectively monitor all aspects of project progress and implementation;
  • Assist PO/PC to identify, report on and manage risks so that maximum benefit to clients and stakeholders is achieved;
  • Regularly review project progress and the implementation structure to deliver and lessons are learnt for the future.
3. Psychosocial Support and Peace Education
  • Keep abreast of Psychosocial Support and Peace Education initiatives in Kenya, and provide technical support and policy advisory for the JCCP Psychosocial Support and Peace Education programmes as required;
  • Identify and pursue JCCP project development opportunities in the area of Psychosocial Support;
  • Represent the JCCP in Inter-Agency mechanisms on Psychosocial Support and Peace Education;
  • Assist PO/PC to identify local organizations or groups working to promote peace education within their communities and oversee strategic, technical, or operational support to those organizations or groups;
  • Assist PO/PC to identify training needs for these local partners for program quality and accountability, and provide them with adequate training if appropriate;
  • Identify and pursue JCCP project development opportunities in the area of peace education.
4. Knowledge Management
  • Develop and update the knowledge products as required throughout project implementation;
  • Institutionalize and disseminate knowledge within JCCP through content/data management;
  • Ensure synthesis of lessons learned and best practices in project management.
Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications and experience required
  • Academic background: a college diploma or higher in social science, community development, project management or other related field;
  • Extensive work experience (at least 5 years) in programme assistance;
  • Ability to work with government, implementing partners and grassroots organizations;
  • Good community mobilization and community organizing skills;
  • Ability to work harmoniously at international environment;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Good management skills, an ability to multi-task and prioritize workload;
  • Good understanding of Somalia and its culture;
  • Fluency in English a must
