Legal Affairs Manager

The Privatization Commission is a State Corporation established under Section 3 of the Privatization Act, 2005 which is mandated to formulate, manage, and implement the privatization programme. 

As the Commission moves to the next phase of its work which will mainly involve implementation of approved transactions, it urgently requires the services of a Legal Affairs Manager as per the details below.

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director/ CEO, key responsibilities will include:
  • Provision of sound legal advice to the management and the Commission;
  • Preparing and arranging all Commission meetings and those of its committees and producing minutes for dissemination to members;
  • Providing legal advice to the Commission on privatization and other transactions;
  • Ensuring compliance with all legal and statutory requirements;
  • Undertaking research on various legal aspects and processes relating to the mandate of the Commission;
  • Formulating guidelines required to be issued under the Privatization Act;
  • Participating in contract negotiations;
  • Assisting the Executive Director/ CEO in ensuring appropriate representation of the Commission in legal matters; and
  • Undertaking any other tasks that may be assigned by the Commission from time to time.
Required Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

To qualify for the position, applicants must have the following:
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university and be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a busy legal environment;
  • Outstanding integrity with commitment to the course of justice and public interest;
  • Proven advocacy skills with ability to communicate clearly and confidently;
  • Ability to work in a team, often under pressure; and initiative with little or no supervision;
  • Proficiency in computers;
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in legal/ company secretary department; and
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills.
A Master’s degree, experience in commercial transactions and Certified Public Secretaries qualifications will be an added advantage.
