Finance Assistant

UHAI- the East African Sexual Health and Rights Initiative is an indigenous activist fund which provides flexible, accessible resources to support civil society activism around issues of sexuality, health and human rights in the East African region (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi) with a specific focus on the rights of sexual and gender minorities. 

UHAI EASHRI aims to build a strong, diverse and organized movement for change through grant making, capacity support and convening.

UHAI EASHRI is looking for a dynamic, result-oriented individual to take up the position of Finance Assistant.

Under the overall supervision of the Finance and Administration Manager, the incumbent will, in summary, be expected to:
  • Prepare payments ensuring proper audit trail;
  • Manage receipts and petty cash;
  • Post payments, receipts and journals into a computerised accounting system and prepare monthly bank reconciliations;
  • Manage the fixed assets inventory;
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
  • A Bachelors degree in an accounting related field or other accountancy professional training such as CPA or ACCA. Additional training in Information Technology (IT) would be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrable experience in finance work of a similar nature will be an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player who demonstrates leadership and is able to support and train interns.
  • Well developed written and oral communication skills. This includes effective negotiation and representation skills.
  • Works with trustworthiness and integrity.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of and commitment to human rights and social justice approaches to promoting sexual health and rights and demonstrable respect for diversity.
  • Competent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Capacity to manage several tasks simultaneously, be flexible and be willing to assume a range of unanticipated assignments.
  • Experience working on Linux based operating systems and Open Office software will be an advantage.
  • Should have excellent written and spoken English. Proficiency in French and Kiswahili will be an added advantage.
