Deputy Commission Secretary Job in Nairobi (Kshs 330, 580 – 456,410)


The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) is an independent National Human Rights Institution established by the Government of Kenya through an Act of Parliament (the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights Act 2011) and under the United Nations Paris Principles. 

It is a constitutional commission created by Article 59 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 with the core mandate of furthering the protection and promotion of human rights in Kenya. 

The Commission acts as a watchdog over the Government in the area of human rights, and provides leadership in moving the country towards a human rights state.

The Commission fulfils its human rights mandate through a number of programmes, including Research and Compliance, Public Education and Training, Complaints and Investigations, Redress and Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. 

The Commissions’ main office is in Nairobi and currently it has two regional offices in Wajir and Kitale.
The Commission is inviting applications for the following position;
Deputy Commission Secretary

Reports To: Commission Secretary
Location: Head Office
Duration: 5 years Contract
Salary Range: Kshs 330, 580 – Kshs 456,410
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Overseeing administrative and program implementation, in line with the Commission SP, mission, vision and goals and approved work plans.
  • Quality control on all departments’ outputs to ensure that the Commission delivers on its mandate.
  • Coordinate annual planning and preparation of annual work plans and budgets for the Commission.
  • Coordination and supervision of work plan implementation including convening and chairing progress review meetings.
  • Coordinate preparation of department quarterly, special and annual reports.
  • Approval of procurement and expenditure for activity implementation in line with approved work plans.
  • Provide capacity building in line with the Commissions knowledge and talent management strategies.
  • Fundraising for various programs of the Commission and preparation and submission of grant reports to donors.
  • Supervision and monitoring of departmental heads including heads of regional offices.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Commission Secretary and Commissioners.
Minimum requirements
  • Minimum of a Masters Degree in Social Sciences (PhD is an added advantage) .
  • Post graduate qualification in Strategic and project Management, planning, proposal writing /Administration, governance and human Rights.
  • Excellent capacity in compilation of reports.
  • Twelve years work Experience with at least five years at a supervisory level.

  • Good organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  • Computer literacy, ability to work in a stressful and demanding environment.
