Treasury Accountant

Sameer Africa Limited, a leading manufacturer and provider of tyres solutions with offices in Nairobi and with operations within the COMESA Region has an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled & resourceful, candidate to fill the above position:-

Main purpose of the job

Develop plans and strategies to ensure availability, security and utilisation of funds to meet current and future obligations at minimum risk and maximum yield.

Among others, key accountabilities will include:-

  • Issuing and updating cash flow forecasts to allow strategic and tactical decisions within the parameters of available cash resources.
  • Reviewing cash balances and preparing consolidated cash position reports.
  • Developing and maintaining hedging strategies in multi-currency transactions and analysing foreign exchange regulations for compliance and to minimize financial risks.
  • Performing foreign exchange risk hedging and hedge accounting for derivatives.
  • Evaluating requests from internal clients and issuing bank guarantee's & letters of credit to suppliers to ensure that payments to the provider are secured.
  • Negotiating treasury transactions involving foreign currency sales/buying, foreign exchange hedging with banks and other players in the market.
  • Investing surplus funds at competitive rates locally and / or internationally to ensure maximum returns are generated from cash resources available.
  • Ensuring timely reconciliations of bank accounts and other facilities and prompt follow up and resolution of reconciling items.
  • Preparing exchange rate forecast for use in budgeting and accounting for multi currency transactions.
  • Reviewing bank balances and initiating repatriation of surplus funds from subsidiaries and branches as per set thresholds.
  • Leading, guiding and developing staff to ensure a competent and motivated team.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • A Bachelors Degree in Accounting/ Finance or a related business field.
  • A Certified Public Accountant ( CPA(K), / ACCA or equivalent) and be a member of ICPAK
  • At least 3 years relevant working experience in a manufacturing environment preferably in a comparable role
  • Experience in a busy Treasury environment in a bank will be an added advantage.
  • Good working knowledge of ERP systems – working knowledge of SAP Version 6.0 will be an added advantage
  • Sound Knowledge and experience in Banking/Financial Institutions relations and Risk management
  • A team player with excellent communication skills, attention to detail, problem solving, analytical and interpersonal skills
