Monitoring and Evaluation Officer (Community Strategy) Job in Kisumu Kenya


Program Description: Family Aids Care and Education Services (FACES) is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). It is a dynamic comprehensive HIV prevention, research, care and treatment program in Kenya. 

It is a rapidly expanding program. Due to its continued growth, the program is seeking motivated, pro-active individual to fill the following vacancy:
Position: Monitoring and Evaluation Officer - Community Strategy 

(1 Position)

Key Requirements
  • Minimum of Degree in social sciences, Public Health, Statistics or related field from a recognized university
  • Experience in the implementation and evaluation of Community Health Strategy is required.
  • Professional training in M&E required
  • Must be computer literate. Strong knowledge of Excel and basic statistics is required; demonstrated skill in statistical analysis, SPSS, MS Access and other databases formats strongly desired.
  • Ability to interpret evaluation and analysis results and provide useful feedback to the community i.e. disseminate/convert M&E jargon into a language that can be understood by the community.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong English writing skills required

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the Provincial Technical Advisor for Social Science and technically to the Program M&E/Data Manager, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
  • Provide technical assistance to MOH to build their capacity and investment in Community Units and district level M&E activities with an emphasis on data quality, harmony, and efficient use of CHWs and CHEWs reports
  • Provide technical support to MOH and FACES teams to routinely monitor program goals and contribute to work plans to ensure achievement of goals.
  • Build the capacity of CHEWs to collect , accurately complete and utilize the monthly CHEW summary reports
  • Employ standardized approaches to data capture and reporting including setting up and maintaining databases
  • Verify and ensure that the submitted reports are entered into the District Health Information System (DHIS)
  • Carry out Routine Data Quality Assurance (RDQA) at select sites each month
  • Train and mentor CHWs, CHEWs, Community Strategy Focal persons and DCCLOs on Ministry of Health community registers
  • Work with sites/community units to improve their data accuracy
  • Mentor sites on how to track and post their own performance based on their monthly reports on Community Chalk Boards
  • Based on the information posted on the Chalk Boards, the M&E officer should be able to inform the Community Dialogue and action days.
  • Ensure that monthly reports are submitted to the District Health Information Officers(DHRIO)
  • Carry out routine evaluations as needed
  • Prepare, write and submit monthly M&E reports to the line manager and technical manager
  • Conduct other monitoring and evaluation activities as required.
