The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) is a not-for-profit Pan-African institution, dedicated
for the last 20 years to enabling the advancement of economic policy research
and training in Africa.
The Consortium’s mandate and strategic intent is built on the
basis that sustained development in sub-Saharan Africa requires well-trained,
locally based professional economists.
AERC is seeking to recruit a suitable individual to fill the following position:
Manager, Resource Mobilization
Reporting to the Executive Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a resource mobilization strategy as well as strengthening the capacity for resource mobilization in the organization.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist
the Executive Director, define, develop and implement long term funding
strategies for the organization;
- Oversee
the development of highly competitive proposals as well as build internal
capacity in proposal writing and fund raising;
- Establish
and maintain strong relations with key donors which includes analyzing key
trends in individual donor policies and priorities and support the match
between AERC priorities and donor priorities;
- Actively
seek opportunities to partner with organizations that support the vision
of AERC outreach;
- Deepen
and broaden relations with donors through informed dialogue;
- Prepare
background papers and presentations on AERC at Seminars, workshops and conferences;
- Assist
the Executive Director in the preparation of terms of reference, strategy
documents and development of grant proposals;
- Oversee
the preparation, consolidation review and dispatch of documentation for
governing organs of the AERC.
Requirements:
- Applicants
must have a minimum of a Masters Degree in any field – A Masters in
Economics will be an added advantage;
- At
least 3 years experience in resource mobilization/fund raising and
proposal development for an international research or development
organization;
- Familiarity
with best practices in international donor relations and fundraising;
- Excellent
report writing skills;
- Experience
with bilateral, multilateral funding agencies, and familiarity with other
private foundations;
- Proven
negotiation, strategic planning and execution skills;
- Willingness
to work hard and under pressure to meet tight deadlines;
- Able
to work over and above normal working hours;
- Willingness
to travel extensively within and out of the continent;
- Excellent
interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills;
- Fluency
in English is required; proficiency in French is an advantage.
