Position title: Finance Assistant / Cashier

Duty Station: Nairobi, Kenya
Type of contract: Special Short Term (SST), 6 months with possibility of extension
General functions:
Under the overall supervision of the Resource Management Officer and the direct supervision Senior Finance Assistant and in close coordination with Migration Health Unit, the incumbent will be responsible for performing cashier functions and other accounting duties in connection with IOM activities at the IOM Migration Health Assessment Centre- Nairobi (MHAC).
In particular, he/she will:-
·         Receive cash/collects payment from all Migration Health Department (MHD) clients.
·         Countercheck the prices/fees indicated on the health assessment payment coupon with the updated cost list and query any differences with the Duty Nurse.
·         Issue receipts for all cash received.
·         Check counterfeit money using counterfeit detection devices when receiving cash payments.
·         Ensure safeguarding of the cash in a locked safe at all times.
·         Prepare on a daily basis a summary of all receipts issued following reporting procedures.
·         Deposit all daily cash receipted according to procedures.
·         Reconcile cash received with issued receipts and reports discrepancies immediately.
·         Ensure that all supporting documents from MHD e.g. coupons and any other documents are attached on the copy of the receipt.
·         Follow up on any refund process to applicants as quickly as possible in coordination with the chief nurse or Duty Nurse.
·         Ensure safety and issuance of migrants refund cheques following proper documentation and identification.
·         Submit all accounting/financial reports required on a timely basis.
·         Ensure availability of office supplies e.g. payment coupons; receipt books at all times and maintains re-order level.
·         Maintain confidentiality of information and collaborative relationships with clients, colleagues and partners.
·         Perform any other related task as may be assigned from time to time.
Desirable Qualifications:
·         Qualified CPA II (Having completed Part 1 & 2)
·         Minimum 3 years Prior work experience as a cashier or teller in either a bank or large financial institution is a requirement.
·         Proficiency in computer skills, especially in MS Office products (Excel, Outlook, Word etc)
·         Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills
·         Mature individual, with high level of proven integrity, able to work independently, paying attention to detail and meeting deadlines
·         Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and confidentiality in performing responsibilities
·         Desirable IOM Competencies: A) Behavioural – Accountability, Client Orientation, Continuous Learning, Communication, Creativity and Initiative, Leadership and Negotiation , Performance Management, Planning and Organizing, Professionalism , Teamwork , Technological Awareness.
