Position Title: Emergency/ Animal Health Assistant    
Grade Level: SC4 (Livestock Sector)
Duty Station: Nairobi with frequent travel to Somalia
Organizational Unit: Somalia Country Office (FAO-Somalia)
Duration: 3 months with possible extension
Eligible Candidates: Somali and Kenyan Nationalities


Anticipated Start Date: 1st March 2012
Under the overall supervision of the Chief AGAH, the direct technical supervision of the  Livestock Emergency Officer and the direct supervision of the Head of Animal Health Unit, the incumbent will:
·         Provide technical input to the implementation of   Animal Health and livestock Emergency Projects in Somalia.
·         Assist in the implementation of disease control strategies  of Trans-boundary Animal Diseases  (TADs) in Somalia
·         Provide support  to Trans-boundary Animal Disease surveillance and  disease reporting  in Somalia,
·         Assist in the analysis  of animal health data  and other  information related to livestock emergencies and maintenance
·         Assist in the organization of workshops and trainings  for Somalia animal health service providers
·         Undertake other duties as required.
Selection Criteria
·         Veterinary Medicine degree is a full requirement with qualifications in the areas of animal health, data & information management;
·         Extent of practical knowledge and experience in Disease Surveillance Systems;
·         Extent of practical knowledge and experience in training on animal health and understanding of disease diagnostic procedures;
·         Extent of both oral and written communication skills, including ability to write reports;
Minimum Requirements
·         Holds a  Bachelors degree in Veterinary Medicine
·         S/he will have at least 2 years of progressively responsible practical experience of animal disease surveillance and monitoring systems , clinical and diagnostic procedures of Trans-boundary Animal Diseases
·         Good knowledge of laboratory equipments ; practical experience in  animal diseases,   data management,  training  on animal  health related topics  and report writing.
Languages
·         Good working knowledge (level C) of English and knowledge of local languages. Somalia language is an asset.
