Risk Manager Job in Kenya

Cannon Assurance ¡s seeking applications from competent, qualified and experienced individuals to fill the positions of 
Risk Manager.

The purpose of this position is to safeguard the company, its customers, reputation, assets and the interests of stakeholders by identifying and managing all threats to the achievement of its business objectives.

This role is responsible for updating the risk and compliance frameworks, taking charge of risk detection, assessment and mitigation strategies and ensuring these aspects are embedded into the operations of the Company.

Key Deliverables

Reporting to the Board Audit and Risk Committee, the Risk Manager will be responsible for the following key deliverables:
  • Ensure that the Company’s risk framework complies with Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) regulations and industry/global norms;
  • Ensure that enterprise-wide risk management policies, controls and procedures, are effectively implemented;
  • Manage the process of identifying and assessing the risks affecting the business and ensure that the risk registers and frameworks are continuously updated;
  • Implement risk control plans to ensure business sustainability and continuity;
  • Undertake periodic departmental risk assessment exercises, including analysis, identification, description and estimation of risks affecting the business;
  • Monitor and evaluate risks including comparison of estimated risks with set criteria (costs, legal requirements and environmental factors);
  • Develop risk & compliance reports for senior management and Board of Directors and challenge the company’s success in managing its risks;
  • Coordinate, communicate and work with departmental heads to ensure they are aware of relevant risks and their accountability for individual risks;
  • Train staff and promote a strong culture of sound risk management and compliance; and
  • Maintain continuous dialogue and flow of information to business units on key issues defined in the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and “Know Your Client” (KYC) policies.
Ideal Qualifications and Experience;
  • A Bachelor’s degree preferably in Finance, Accounting or a business related field;
  • A qualified accountant/auditor with CPA /ACA/ACCA/CIA or equivalent;
  • Professional qualifications in insurance i.e. ACII or equivalent;
  • A Master’s degree preferably in Business Administration/Finance/Banking or a business related field will be an added advantage;
  • Minimum five (5) years relevant experience, three (3) of which must be in a Risk Manager role or senior financial management position;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a busy and complex environment, preferably ¡n the financial services industry;
  • Excellent analytical skills;
  • Good communication and persuasion skills; and
  • Excellent people management skills, team motivation and leadership competencies.
