A story is told of a man who convinced his best
friend to drive him in his car for a week. The man was tired of driving
himself and thought, ‘my friend is a bit more daring on the road and the
way the matatus (public
transport) have been pushing me of lately, I think he is better suited to drive
my nice prado.’ The trip to and from work was, to say the least horrendous. His
friend could take the wrong lane, bang his vehicle a long side-walks and
overtake on hills. In no time, the man’s car was in ruins. He had to start all
over again.
Now, relate this story to your career. I have
noticed a trend that is fast becoming a nuisance – young people accompanying
each other on a job searching mission. Well, they say there is strength in
numbers, but why would you allow your friend or a family member to speak for
you on such occasions?
