IT Coordinator Job in Nairobi Kenya

The IT Coordinator is responsible for the support and administration of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure at EDC’s Kenya office with some oversight of the Juba, South Sudan Office.

The IT Coordinator will report to the SRS Chief of Party or his/her designee.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support, administer and operate the ICT infrastructure
  • Conduct disaster planning and recovery of the ICT infrastructure.
  • Ensure system integrity, availability and security by establishing proper controls and resolution procedures.
  • Provide technical advice to the management in decisions relating to the strategic use of ICT and make recommendations on acquisition and deployment of new and existing technologies.

  • Establish consultative relationships with all staff pertaining to advice on ICT.
  • Install new network-related hardware and software.
  • Install PC's and related hardware. Investigate hardware problems and perform minor system hardware and communication connection repairs. Perform basic diagnostic testing.
  • In conjunction with EDC’s home office maintain the staff’s e-mail accounts using mail server software on local servers.
  • Liaise with the ISP to maintain and support internet and VOIP functionality.
  • Maintain all office PC’s, including cleaning and de-fragmenting hard drives, plus updating virus protection and other software.
  • Perform weekly archiving of EDC Kenya projects’ broadcast materials.
  • Develop skills using and maintaining communications equipment, including (but not limited to) telephony, radio, and VSAT technology, with the goal of being able to do basic troubleshooting of these technologies.
  • Maintain and update EDC Kenya project websites and intranet.
  • Provide technical advice and support to Sudan-based IT staff.
  • Supervise an IT assistant, to whom some of the above duties may be assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • University Degree in information systems/computer sciences, or equivalent knowledge, required.
  • Three years’ professional experience managing an office network.
  • Experience in Windows 2003/Win 2003 server and XP (certification will be an advantage).
  • Experience administering an office network, including ISP relations and remote user connectivity.
  • Knowledge of the consulting process directed at client and product delivery.
  • Specialization in TCP/IP protocol is required.
  • Knowledge of PC hardware maintenance, updating and troubleshooting a must.
  • Knowledge of radio operation and server maintenance desirable.
  • Must have good communication and training skills.
  • Interest in and capacity to learn how to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a VSAT.
  • Work timely and effectively to meet deadlines. Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends, when necessary.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of PC hardware installation, repair, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Must be a team player.
Reports: The IT Coordinator will prepare reports as directed.

Location:
 The IT Coordinator will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, working at EDC’s, offices. Travel to Sudan is a possibility.
