Executive Director Job in Nairobi Kenya (Re-Advertisement)

The Executive Board of the African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET) is sending out this vacancy announcement for the recruitment of an Executive Directorof its Secretariat based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible to the Executive Board, the Executive Director is in charge of, among other duties:
  • Ensuring the day –to- day management of activities at the Secretariat;
  • Ensuring connection and coordination between the Executive Board, the Board of Trustees and the Secretariat;
  • Ensuring effective and timely implementation of the instructions and recommendations as well as the guidelines from the Executive Board and the Board of Trustees;

  • Ensuring that the set procedures and regulations for the smooth running of the Secretariat are strictly respected;
  • Oversee fundraising, planning and implementation, including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals and maintaining fundraising records and documentation to ensure sustainability of FEMNET;
  • Ensuring the management of human resources;
  • Implementing the strategic directives designed with the Executive Board and Board of Trustees for the Secretariat;
  • Ensuring planning and coordination of the activities of focal points and those of regional representatives;
  • Ensuring proper implementation of the budget and of the resources availed to the Secretariat;
  • Thrusting dynamics aimed at increasing the visibility and consolidating the notoriety and achievements of the Network;
  • Ensuring the timely submission of statutory narrative and financial reports for on-going programmes/projects and keeping links with members of the Executive Board and of the Board of Trustees as well as sub-regional and national focal points in the implementation of programmes and activities of the Network;
  • Ensuring that the Secretariat updates the members’ and partners’ Register on a regular basis.
Skills required:

The candidate to the position of Executive Director must fulfill the following:
  • Being holder of at least a Masters degree in social sciences or an equivalent qualification;
  • Having a great ability to communicate;
  • Having at least 5 years of experience in management of women’s rights’ not for profit institutions with an understanding of the principles and practices involved in the effective management of complex institutions;
  • Having demonstrated interest and experience in gender and development and/or women's human rights organising in Africa in all of its diversity, including a commitment to African women’s autonomy and choice;
  • Having demonstrated interest and experience in African women’s human rights organising through communication and information;
  • Having demonstrated interest and experience in African women’s human rights organising in the context of regional and international intergovernmental organisations (IGOs) as well as other relevant regional and international processes and at national level in at least three sub-regions of Africa;
  • Good knowledge of international human rights-related instruments (treaties, conventions, protocols) would be an asset.
General requirements:
  • Being an African citizen ;
  • Being morally sound and having a great sense of accountability ;
  • Ability to take initiatives for activity development ;
  • Ability to work in a team and under pressure;
  • Being able to work from the duty station in Nairobi, Kenya
  • Being computer literate (word processing and Internet software)
  • Having a good command of English and French; knowledge of Portuguese would be an asset.
