Background

The Mine Action Programme in Somalia had been implemented by UNDP since 2002. The programme started in Somaliland and Puntland, and has implemented capacity building projects, provided technical assistance for the national Somaliland and Puntland Mine Action centers and the Police Explosive Ordnance disposal teams.

Mine Action operations in south central Somalia were launched in 2007 with the primary objective of establishing a national Mine Action Coordination Center to cover the remaining regions of south central Somalia.

The UN Somalia Mine Action Programme (UNSOMA) has transitioned and will operate under the responsibility of the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), executed by UNOPS.

In South Central, UNSOMA will expand the activities in support of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). UNSOMA has an office in Nairobi to provide managerial and support functions for the Regional Office in Baidoa and the activities in Mogadishu. .

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general guidance and direction of the Head of Administration and the direct supervision of the administration officer, the Clerk will
  • Prepare staff payments for DSA
  • Update the payment log
  • Filing and archiving of payments
  • Complete travel bookings in accordance with the Travel Policy
  • Ensure DSA payments and flight bookings are completed in accordance with the duly authorized Travel Authorizations
  • Ensure travel within an administration instruction is completed in accordance with policy and a timely manner
  • Any other tasks requested by the Administration Officer
Required Selection Criteria

Competencies
  • A sound knowledge of UNOPS/UN financial rules is an advantage
  • Sound Computer skills, in particular MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, FASS, Atlas and Imprest.
  • Ability to work in a multi-national/multi-cultural environment
  • Ability to work under time pressure
  • Strong communication skills
Education/Experience/Language
  • Minimum 2 years experience in Administration
  • High School certificate
  • Previous experience in UNOPS an advantage
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
