About the Youth Employment Initiative of Nairobi
The Youth Employment Initiative of Nairobi is a 3-year project that aims at encouraging and strengthening networks and cooperation between youth organisations and relevant stakeholders at the labour market, in the delivery of youth employment creation services in Nairobi.
It also seeks to increase knowledge and skills of young people on employment possibilities/entrepreneurship and supporting the youth in entering the labour market, through capacity building of youth, youth organisations and development of training and networking models within Nairobi area.
The primary target group is the job seeking youth of  Nairobi (focus segment aged 18-35 years) whilst the secondary target group is stakeholders at the labour market- mainly government, trade unions, employers’ organizations, trade organizations,  youth organizations and employers.
The project acknowledges that within the youth segment outlined (ages 18-35) differences remain, thus training modules and/or delivery models of the curriculum may need to vary to address these differences.
Youth organizations and labour market stakeholders will actively be involved in and influence the project through participation in networks. Activities like informational meetings and trainings are expected to continue under the stewardship of youth organizations and the OSYIRC even after the end of the project.
About Information Meetings
The information meetings are a crucial part in the project implementation whose major aims are to:
1.    Form a platform where information on employment/business opportunities and trends are shared.
2.    Bring youths together so as to air and take lead in the formation of solutions to the various issues on business and employment affecting them and get issues that can be advocated for the youths
3.    Act as a ground for the recruitment of trainees for the ENTREPRENEURSHIP and LABOUR MARKET/ EMPLOYMENT trainings to be rolled out.
As such the recruited T.O.T’s will be expected to:
·         Communicate to the youths in their respective areas on available employment/business opportunities in their micro and macro environments
·         Independently and in liaison with the YEI secretariat build an information database on developments/events pertinent to youth employment/entrepreneurship
·         Be the voice of the project at the grassroots.
·         Mobilize the youths within their constituency to attend the information meetings and later on actual trainings
·         Facilitate participatory youth informational meetings at the constituency level on issues/problems around youth employment/entrepreneurship with a bias for catalyzing local responses/solutions
·         Network with and exploit existing networks with other organizations within the constituency to implement the solutions to youth unemployment
Scope of the consultancy
The consultant will work under the guidance of the Project Coordinator.
The purpose of the consultancy will be to facilitate and implement the training of trainers (recruited T.O.Ts) for youth information so as to build their capacity in areas that are critical in the delivery of the envisioned results.
The selected consultant will be expected to:
·         Train the TOTs on how to continuously gather and manage information on youth employment & entrepreneurship to be used during the information meetings, and recommend relevant sources (publications, blogs, websites etc.) for such information.
·         Share information on the trends, state, and opportunities for youth employment in Kenya
·         Share information on the trends, state, and opportunities for youth entrepreneurship in Kenya
·         Prepare and package youth employment information guidelines and content to be shared in the informational meetings
·         Conduct training on communication and facilitation skills for informal large gatherings/meetings
·         Conduct training on forming and exploiting networks and mobilization skills
·         Facilitate a joint group work plan development session at the end of the workshop that will operationalize the information sharing meetings
Time frame for the consultancy
The consultancy assignment for training of trainers for facilitation of youth information meetings shall be for a period of five (5) days.
About the consultant
The ideal candidate for the consultancy will be individuals, groups or consortia that:
·         Hold strong experience in conducting similar assignments
·         Demonstrate familiarity to and knowledge on opportunities, trends, issues and developments around youth employment and entrepreneurship in Kenya
·         Have significant experience in writing reports and youth training. Candidates with at least two years in youth training will be preferred.
·         Demonstrate fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili
·         Demonstrate commitment to improve youth livelihood especially youth employment, be an excellent communicator and demonstrate laudable initiative especially on youth employment issues
Those available to undertake the assignment in the last week of May will have an added advantage.
