I Choose Life-Africa (ICL) is one of the leading NGOs in the country working with the youth and has programs in over 30 institutions (tertiary institutions and high schools) across six provinces in Kenya.

Its goal is to contribute to the Kenya National AIDS Strategic Plan to reduce HIV, improve the quality of life of those infected and affected and mitigate the socio-economic impact of HIV and AIDS. ICL’s vision is “An AIDS Free Africa”.

Job Purpose

The Communications & Marketing Officer will create, implement and oversee Communications and Marketing programs that effectively describe and promote the organization and its products.

Generally, the job holder will manage ICL in line with the organization’s brand identity. The job holder will also oversee product development or monitor trends that indicate the need for new products and services and develop strategies that maximize the organizations’ market share.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Develops and implements a Marketing Strategy that effectively markets organizational products and services for individual and corporate supporter recruitment and development.
  • Prescribe, lead and conduct market research and marketing initiatives to assess donor priorities and identify opportunities for Resource Mobilization.
  • Ensure the organization is understood by the media and the media are interested in presenting information to the public in a manner that informs and educates them on the organization.
  • Give adequate support in developing media strategy, drafting press releases, responding to media enquiries and building dialogue with journalists.
  • Keeps employees informed of company events or updates, service opportunities, and upcoming product releases.
  • Managing and updating databases to record donor contact and preference information.
  • Manage ICL’s external communications strategies including web site management, newsletter roduction, email communication etc.
  • Manage effective communication and relationships with existing donors and partners.
  • Define ICL’s donor relations strategy, including private sector and cause-related marketing, based on market intelligence.
Academic Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Personality Desired:-
  • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, or an equivalent combination of the education, training and expertise relevant to this position.
  • A Masters degree in one of the above or any other related field preferred and will be an added advantage
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in program development and marketing
  • Prior association and/or experience with NGOs will be an added advantage
  • Strong written and verbal communications with excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively work under tight deadlines and manage projects independently.
  • Resourcefulness in solving problems
  • Excellent people skills and an upbeat and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Able to think creatively and strategically with excellent judgment, strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Must possess strong leadership skills and be able to motivate and influence others.
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Strong and unquestionable work ethics
