Our client, the CIC Insurance Group Limited was founded by the Co-operative movement in Kenya in 1978. For two decades up to 1998, it operated mainly as a captive insurance company and achieved modest growth.

Since 1999, the company embarked on a transformation and diversification programme which has seen it grow in leaps and bounds.

Over and above the recently licensed CIC Asset Management Company, CIC’s composite insurance business is under-going a de-merger process which will result in two separate companies. Consequent upon the de-merger, CIC Insurance Group Ltd- the holding company- will have three subsidiaries.

The company envisages to expand into the East and Central African region soon which will further increase the number of subsidiaries and associate companies within the group, and aspires to be a world class player.

To support this business growth and organizational and service offering diversification, CIC Insurance Group is looking to fill the positions of General Manager - Corporate Services and Development, Assistant General Manager- Finance, Research and Development Manager, and Business Development Manager-Corporate Business.

General Manager: Corporate Services and Development

Position scope

This is a new position that has arisen as a result of the expansion and positioning plans that CIC has undertaken. Reporting to the Group CEO, the position holder will provide key advisory services to the Group CEO, Group Board and Subsidiary Boards and CEO’s.

The holder of this position will be required to formulate and drive the Compliance, Risk Management and Governance agenda both locally and within the Region.

Exceptional skills in designing and implementation of a compliance framework will be vital.

Main tasks will include:

  • Development of business strategies and policies relating to compliance and governance.
  • Search for diversification opportunities and development of institutional framework for effective implementation and progress control of the same.
  • Legal and Business Outlook
  • Risk management oversight
  • Business processes and procedures, Benchmarks and standards review
Qualifications and skills
  • Over 10 years post qualification experience of which 5 years will have been gained in a senior management position
  • An LLB Degree with a bias in Commercial Law. An MBA from a recognised University will be an added advantage
  • Experience in a regulatory environment
  • Experience in company secretarial and board advisory services
  • Knowledge and experience in computer based knowledge management
  • In-depth understanding of Capital Markets operations
  • Hands on experience in design and execution of Memoranda of Understanding(MOU’s) and Service Level Agreements( SLA’s)
  • A general understanding of the Cooperative movement operation would be considered an added advantage
Assistant General Manager (Finance)

Position scope

Reporting to the General Manager (Finance), the position holder will be required to drive the implementation of sound financial management policies and ensure IT integration of company operations.

Main tasks will include:
  • Review financial reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with statutory requirements
  • Review of financial documents to align to changes in taxation and other policies by Government and other regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinate preparation of corporate monthly and annual budgets, and ensure control of expenditure
  • Coordinate and supervise smooth running of Finance department functions.
Qualifications and skills
  • Over 5 years senior experience in a relatively large Insurance Company
  • A Bachelors degree in Accounting! Finance from a recognised University
  • Certified Public Accountant, (CPA (K) or ACCA
  • An MBA will be an added advantage
  • Strong IT grounding with good knowledge of systems in use within Insurance Industry
  • Good reporting and Communication Skills
Research and Development Manager

Position scope

Reporting to the Group CEO, the position holder will head a forward looking newly created unit designed to serve the group as a whole.

Main tasks will include:
  • Conducting effective market intelligence
  • Provide supporting data in the formulation of the Group policy and growth programmes
  • Collect and collate relevant information drawn from analysis of various documents in the financial services, from government and other relevant agencies to facilitate identification of growth opportunities and long term strategic planning
  • Monitoring implementation of the Group’s strategic plan
  • Assessing internal controls to ensure adherence to established policies, procedures, practices and systems, in order to mitigate any business risk.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement
Qualifications and skills
  • BA-Economics or BSc - Actuarial
  • Masters Degree in Economics is a must
  • Minimum of 10 years research and development experience
  • Key hands on involvement in strategic planning process
Business Development Manager: Corporate Business

Position scope

Reporting to the General Manager- General Marketing, the position holder will be responsible for implementing the business development strategy and identifying new business opportunities while maintaining key relationships.

Senior level experience with expertise in dealing with large intermediaries and corporate clients is key to the success in this role

Main tasks will include:
  • High level Client Relationship Management
  • Pursuing sales leads and large prospective clients
  • Delivering presentations and proposals
  • Negotiating and closing business deals
  • Maintain current knowledge of market conditions
Qualifications and skills
  • University Graduate with a Business Degree
  • Good experience in Business management
  • An MBA will be an added advantage
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Strong writing and presentation skills
