IT Manager Job in Nairobi Kenya - Bridge International Academies

Bridge International Academies is a startup company revolutionizing education across Africa with a truly unique business model.

The company has launched a large-scale franchise-like network of ultra low-cost for-profit private primary schools across Africa. Our schools profitably deliver high-quality education for less than $4 per child per month, enabling local school managers to operate their school businesses profitably, while creating a highly successful business at the central level.

We now have 25 schools in Kenya, and plan to rapidly scale the company to serve more than 1 million students.

About this position

We are looking for a full time IT Manager to hire and lead the teams responsible for our corporate network, IT equipment and user support.

Specific Responsibilities include: 

  • Managing the local area network and internet connection
  • Planning and implementing expansion of the network to ensure that is scales reliably as the company grows including extending the network to satellite offices
  • Managing servers (database, domain, web)
  • Recommending, sourcing ,installing and maintaining network equipment such as firewalls, routers and switches
  • Ensuring network security through installation of appropriate hardware and software as well development of IT policies
  • Developing procedures and systems for data backup and disaster recovery
  • Oversee user support (help desk) staff for both the network and other hardware and software
  • Oversee support of remote users at our schools using netbooks, tablets and other mobile devices
  • Oversee maintenance, upgrades and repairs of IT equipment including all employee computers
  • Project management, including scheduling and budgeting, particularly for IT infrastructure improvement projects
  • Developing IT policies and procedures and ensuring their continuous review
  • Supervision, training and mentoring of junior staff members
  • Building and maintain vendor relationships and manage purchasing of hardware and software.
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure that company assets are tracked maintained responsibly
  • Recommendations to senior management on ways to improve the use of IT within the company
About You
  • You have BA/BS in Computer Science or related technical field
  • You have a minimum of 8 years experience in networking, systems administration and IT support with at least 3 years in a supervisory role
  • You have managed networks for more than 100 users spread across multiple geographical locations
  • You have designed and implemented large networks from scratch
  • You have lead IT teams of 5 or more people
  • You have experience with the following technologies:
  1. Windows (client and server) including ActiveDirectory
  2. Firewalls, internet filtering and traffic shaping
  3. End user (help desk) support
  4. Mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones
  5. Web servers (IIS & Apache)
  6. Databases (MySQL & SQL Server)
  7. VPN
  • You have developed and managed project schedules, plans and budgets for IT projects
  • You take initiative, are well organized and work independently
  • You function well in a fast-paced, informal environment where constant change is the norm and the bar for quality is set high
