The Coffee Berry Borer Project (Plant Health Division) urgently requires the services of a competent Technical Assistant for a short term contract (one year). The person required should be available immediately. The position is based at the Duduville campus, Nairobi.

- Ordinary Diploma in Applied Biology
- At least one year’s experience in handling coffee berry borer and other insects and insect-transmitted plant diseases.
- Excellent knowledge in the use of MS-office suite is essential
- Be able to communicate effectively in English.
- Be prepared to work long hours including at times weekends and public holidays.
- Be available to start by 1 March 2011 or thereabouts.

The successful candidate will be required, among other things, to discharge the following duties and responsibilities:

- Sampling of coffee berry borer field ecological data.
- Analysing of chemical ecology data from the coffee berries.
- Elucidate the kairomones and aggregation pheromones of H. hampei
- Carry out electroantennogram detection methods of H. hampei and bioassays.
