Article 19 Senior Programme Officer, Access to Information Job in Nairobi Kenya

A human rights organisation that defends and promotes freedom of expression and freedom of information throughout the world.

Article 19 is seeking a Senior Programme Officer to lead the Eastern Africa programme team in developing programmes, projects and activities to promote freedom of information in Eastern Africa.

As well as managing existing projects, you will also be expected to develop new projects including fundraising for them and overseeing their implementation ensuring the quality of delivered outputs and outcomes.

In addition you will contribute to the overall work of Article 19.

Candidates will be educated to degree standard and must be able to demonstrate familiarity with both international and regional mechanisms for promoting and protecting human rights as well as with key access to information issues in Eastern Africa.

They will also need substantial experience in programme management and implementation in access to information, human rights, development or a related area of work gained in a cross cultural environment.

Fluency in spoken and written English is essential and proficiency in one other major language of the region, especially Kiswahili, is highly desirable.

This is an initial two year contract with the possibility of extension subject to funding. All applicants must already have the right to work in Kenya.
