Director, Administration and Human Resources

AWF currently seeks to hire a Director, Administration and Human Resources to be based in its Headquarter Offices in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Director, Administration and Human Resources (DAHR) will report to the Chief Financial Officer and oversee the Foundation’s global Human Resources, Administration and Procurements functions.

This is a new post in AWF and the DAHR will be expected to create and maintain an operating framework for each function that provides consistent and high quality services to AWF’s internal clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create a HR strategy to support overall mission and strategic framework of the organization
  • Lead, manage and supervise HR operations (executed by HR team) including recruitment, contracting, compensation, payroll, benefits administration, performance management, and training
  • Working with AWF’s management team, assess and improve staff performance assessment system, career development opportunities and succession planning practices
  • Spearhead establishment of a centralized procurement department within AWF
  • Create and maintain standard contract and sub grant terms, conditions and templates for AWF, together with specific requirements for AWF’s various donors
  • Ensure proper deployment, use and maintenance of facilities, vehicles and capital equipment
  • Create and implement a set of effective administrative policies, procedures and templates to ensure efficient and consistent operational and security standards throughout all of AWF’s offices
The successful candidate;
  • Must be fully fluent in both French and English
  • Will have a University degree in business, human resources, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred
  • Will have 10+ years work related experience, preferably in donor-funded organization, with a track record of increasingly responsible positions. 5+ years of experience leading a professional team.
  • Will have excellent knowledge of industry best practices and the ability to translate this knowledge into policies and procedures within AWF.
  • Will have excellent customer service skills with the ability to handle challenging situations quickly, accurately, and cordially
  • Will have strong level of competence with various computer applications, specifically Microsoft Office
  • Will have a Professional demeanor with an unwavering commitment to honesty and integrity
  • Will have a strong team commitment and drive for personal and organizational achievement
Climate Change Program Manager

AWF currently seeks to hire a Climate Change Program Manager to be based in its Headquarter Offices in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Climate Change Program Manager will report to the Senior Director, Conservation Science and will work closely with the AWF Lands Director, the Regional Program teams and the Program Design team.

S/he will lead AWF’s climate change program and manage the technical design, funding and implementation of a portfolio of climate change monitoring, mitigation and adaptation projects across Africa and will participate in strategic, national and international climate change policy processes and prepare written technical reports for internal and external audiences.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Improve understanding and monitoring of climate change impacts in the AWF Heartlands Programme
  • Develop and manage portfolio of carbon mitigation projects across AWF Heartlands
  • Lead work to promote ecosystem-based adaptation across AWF Heartlands
  • Support climate change policy work across AWF target countries
  • Prepare key papers and presentations, and represent AWF in strategic forums
The successful candidate;
  • Will have a Postgraduate (MBA, MSc or PhD) qualifications required in relevant field from a reputable institution
  • Will have at least 5 years relevant experience of working at a responsible level on climate change issues, including wide knowledge and understanding of climate change issues related to ecosystems, forests and biodiversity; voluntary and regulatory carbon markets; climate policy; and REDD policy and projects.
  • Will have demonstrable experience of designing conservation and climate change projects and of engaging in high level stakeholder consultation and policy analysis with regards to sustainable development and conservation.
  • Will have outstanding technical skills and knowledge with respect to climate change issues, and carbon financing opportunities in Africa.
  • Will be fluent in spoken and written English; fluency in French would be an added advantage
