Ipas Africa Alliance Program Director and Senior Policy Advisor Job in Kenya

Ipas Africa Alliance to be based in Nairobi, Kenya

Founded in 1973, Ipas is a global nongovernmental organization dedicated to ending preventable deaths and disabilities from unsafe abortion.

Through local, national and global partnerships, Ipas works to ensure that women can obtain safe, respectful and comprehensive abortion care, including counseling and contraception to prevent future unintended pregnancies.

Position: 
Program Director, Alliance and Kenya

Full-time, 2-year contract position, renewal based on availability of funds.

Under the supervision of the Africa Regional Director, and working with the regional/country support teams, the Alliance Program Director will be accountable for providing support in the development, management, implementation and documentation of Ipas’ program in Kenya and other Alliance countries.

The Director is responsible for building partnerships, the bi-annual planning and budget cycle, supervising the Alliance program team, and coordinating with technical, development and administration units to ensure country team support and achievement of program results.

He/she ensures adequate level of financial resources for the Alliance program; representation of Ipas and advocacy of the mission to external and internal audiences.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in relevant discipline; at least 8 years of relevant experience required.

Senior Policy Advisor/Manager - Alliance

Full-time, 2-year contract position, renewal based on availability of funds.

This senior policy position provides strategic guidance and technical assistance for Ipas’s policy and advocacy activities in the Africa region.

The position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to improve the enabling environment in support of women’s ability to exercise their sexual and reproductive rights, with a focus on abortion care.

S/he facilitates advocacy to regional institutions and agencies and builds the capacity of regional networks and groups in selected countries to support Ipas mission, human rights and reproductive health.

Reports to: Vice President for Africa

Requirements: 8 years’ experience in policy, advocacy or related work and with management experience; advance degree in relevant field; excellent supervision, communications and representational skills.

Additional requirements for both positions:

  • Strong written and spoken communications skills in English and local east African languages. Knowledge of French desirable.
  • Experience in an international health or development organization an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regionally and domestically in Kenya up to 35% of working days per year.
  • A limited amount of other international travel may be required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work successfully in a cross-cultural, team-based global environment.
