Opportunity for highly motivated staff Kenya Media Programme

A new to be established initiative Kenya Media Programme (KPM) seeks to contribute to a more stable Kenya through support to the media.

As a key provider of information, media is a critical driving force in improving transparency and accountability in Kenya.

KMP will be implementing a grant facility for the media as well as establish a network-learning facility for the media fraternity.

Hivos seeks a Project Leader and a Project Officer.

1. Project leader

Responsibilities: 

Reporting to the Director of Hivos Kenya, you will be responsible to manage the office set up of the KMP and recruitment of staff.

You will also oversee and facilitate the setup and implementation of the administrative, accounting and auditing procedures of the KMP;

You will be responsible for the implementation of the two main programme activities; grant disbursement and media network facility and ensure the satisfactory implementation of all other deliverables as described in programme documentation;

You will supervise a small team of core staff

You will develop and implement innovative and solid monitoring & evaluation processes and ensure that all reporting and reviewing obligations to the Steering Committee and donors have been met in a timely manner;

You will build and strengthen networks and partnerships relevant and/or strategic to the KMP, represent KMP in external meetings, conferences and media interviews; as well as actively promote and brand the initiative wherever appropriate and possible

Qualifications:
  • a relevant master’s degree,
  • extensive 5- 7 years experience in the media in Kenya,
  • strong network in the media fraternity,
  • innovative attitude with the ability to initiate and develop new initiatives
  • culturally sensitive and capacity to motivate and get the best out of others,
  • proven track record in project management and financially literate
  • self starter,
  • strong communication skills (oral and written) in English.
2. Project Officer

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Project Leader, you will be responsible for the effective, timely and efficient implementation of the KMP grant-making component.

You will be responsible for grant management and administration.

You will cultivate effective and innovative relationships with potential grantees and coordinate mentorship of institutional grantees to ensure quality journalism outputs.

Qualifications:
  • A master’s university degree (preferred) or at least a first degree in a relevant field,
  • At least 3 years working experience in the media sector and background in Journalism
  • Strong organisation and analytical skills,
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • Computer proficiency
  • Financial skills
