“The Walter Reed Project” is a Research Based Organization that is affiliated to the Kenya Medical Research Institute. Our mission is to develop and test improved means for predicting, detecting, preventing and treating infectious disease.

The organization seeks to fill the following positions:

Position:
 Clinical Research Coordinator 
(1 Position)
Location:
 Walter Reed Project, Kisumu

Key Requirements:
  • Diploma or Bachelor degree in Health Related Field (Nursing or Clinical Medicine)
  • At least 1 year of research experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Should be a registered member of the relevant professional body.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Involved in the development of clinical trial protocols; participates in the development of standard operating procedures, coordinating protocol review and approval process.
  • Overseeing technical and/or administrative research activities, to include training, goal setting, and distribution of workload.
  • Advice and train site personnel on sponsor and regulatory requirements for study conduct.
  • Reviewing study records, for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
  • Prepares reports.
This is a training position requiring highly skilled, motivated and committed individuals; the Clinical Research Coordinator will be required to work under supervision of a senior study coordinator.

Position:
 Computer programmer/Data Analyst 
Location:
 Walter Reed Project, Kisumu

The incumbent will be responsible for the design, development and administration of analytical data structures and to oversee all aspects of databases including initial database architecture design through implementation, administration, monitoring, tuning, backup, migration, and support.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • System design, development and Management
  • Ensure database performance optimization and system availability
  • Ensure data security, integrity and recovery
  • Data analysis using commonly used statistical software ( SPSS, STATA, EPI Info)
  • Help desk support
  • Conducting electrical safety checks on computer equipment
  • Supervision of a section of IT staff.
Key Skills
  • Ability to apply technical standards, principles, theories and techniques
  • Experience with programming languages such Visual Basic, VB.Net, ASP
  • Experience Scripting languages e.g PHP, VBScript, javascript etc
  • Experience with Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) i.e. SQL Server, Ms Access
  • Possesses problem solving capabilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with UML Innovates data visualization and presentation techniques
  • Good knowledge of computer hardware and software and ability to learn about new software
  • Proficient in using analytical tools and instruments.
Academic Qualification Requirements:
  • Minimum 3 years programming experience
  • Minimum Education: Diploma in Computer Science or Information Technology
  • Experience in a Medical Research setting and certification in any application development an added advantage
