Terms of Reference

For a new project on dairy cattle genetics in East Africa, ILRI is seeking to recruit 5 site coordinators (1 person per site) to oversee and conduct data collection at farm and community levels.

The project aims at identifying appropriate genotypes for smallholder dairy farmers in Kenya and Uganda, and best mechanisms for their delivery. Data will be collected at different levels (community, farm and animal) and different points of time as animals will be monitored over an 18-month period.

The site coordinator tasks will be to coordinate all project activities at site levels.

In particular, working with project team, s/he will
  • Assist project team identify and select farms and cows to be included in the project and study;
  • Supervise baseline survey data collection, and data entry by the survey enumerators
  • Collect and enter monitoring data from about 150 households in each site and
  • Organize and lead community focus group discussions and provide feedbacks to farmers.
Minimum Requirements
  • Degree in veterinary medicine/ animal science or related field and excellent understanding of smallholders dairy systems; good interpersonal skills; good computer skills (Excel, Access, email); attention to detail; experience working in a team; able to work under minimum supervision; resident within or nearby project sites (or ready to live there) and available full time for the next 18 months
Terms of appointment: 

These positions will be based in Butere/Kwhisero, Kabras, Siongoroi, Kaptumo and Meteitei (1 person per site) and are open to Kenyan nationals only.
