Forest Information Systems Specialist Job in Kenya - Kenya Forest Service (KFS)

Kenya Forest Service is a State Corporation established by an Act of Parliament for the management and conservation of all types of forests. The Service seeks to recruit self motivated, dynamic and results oriented individual to fill the following position:

Forest Information Systems Specialist

KFS Grade 5
Ref KFS MMMB/FISS/01/10

Reporting to the Head – Forest Planning and Information System, the position holder will be responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the Kenya Forest Service forest resource information system.

Overall Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage Corporate level geo – database
  • Set standards for the collection, input and storage of forest planning data
  • Develop data sharing and security arrangements
  • Coordinate gathering, analyses and modelling of forest planning data
  • Ensure that updated GIS technology is available for forest planning and management
  • Disseminate GIS products to the relevant clients/users
  • Develop GIS skills of KFS staff at all forest management levels
Required Qualifications and experience:

Suitable candidates MUST have the following minimum qualifications:
  • BSc degree in geo – spatial information systems, information management or any other related discipline
  • Post graduate training in GIS Technology will be an added advantage
  • At least three (3) years experience in GIS related work in a large public or private Organization
  • Practical experience in use of GIS software applications in data analyses and modelling.
