Project summary:

The European Union and Kindernothilfe e.V are supporting project entitled Poverty Reduction among Vulnerable Youths through an empowered vocational training in Nairobi slums and Laikipia East District.

Nairobits Trust, Ethi Polytechnic of Anglican Church of Kenya Mt. Kenya West Diocese and Eastleigh Community Centre of Presbyterian Church of Eastern Africa will jointly implement the project.

The co-ordination for the implementation of this project will be by a secretariat hosted by Nairobits Trust. The project emphasises community based approach to vocational training.

Position summary: 

The secretariat is seeking candidates for the position of Project Manager.

The Manage under the direction of the General Manager Nairobits and an advisory committee composed of the three organisations will co-ordinate the implementation of the project.

The candidate will be familiar with youth development initiatives, community development approaches and vocational training and entrepreneurship and should have performed similar duties for a period of not less than 5 years.

The Manager is a senior member of the project management team providing leadership in developing management strategies and systems for achievement of contract/project objectives.

She/he also leads the procurement, finance and operations functions and maintains a daily understanding of the of all project components and their status, so as to serve as a point of contact for project information, and to ensure all project deliverables are achieved on time and on budget.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in social sciences from a recognized University, or in related fields with equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five years experience managing youth development projects.
  • Proven experience in managing multi portfolio projects.
  • Experience with EU funded projects rules, regulations and reporting requirements will be a definite advantage.
  • Experience in managing finances is required.
  • Strong coordination, reporting, communication and excellent computer skills required.
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work in a small but complex highly computerized organization required.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively in project teams’ context.
  • The position is based in Nairobi with frequent field travels.
