Program description:
 This program is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research in malaria, HIV and other diseases.

To effectively carry out its mandate, the KEMRI/CDC Global AIDS Program (GAP) wishes to recruit a Program Coordinator (Data Management) who will be responsible for coordinating GAP data management and reporting activities in Nyanza province and Western region of the country.

Basic Requirements;

  • Masters Degree in Public Health/Epidemiology/Demography/Biostatistics or other related numeric field
  • Minimum 3 years experience at managerial/supervisory level in data management, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting – preferably in a research institution.
  • Must possess good organizational skills and be able to plan efficient workflow to ensure accomplishment of set objectives.
  • Excellent skills in statistical analysis programs (SAS/STATA/EpiInfo) and MS office suite
  • Should be able to communicate effectively with the program leads, and possess good written and verbal communication skills
  • Self driven and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Experience in PEPFAR programming, USG reporting requirements, and public health research are added advantages
Desired Skills;
  • Excellent IT skills and their application in public health settings
  • Excellent knowledge in database management software
  • Excellent knowledge in statistical analysis software
  • Good understanding of HIV/AIDS situation in the country
  • Knowledge of SQL databases is an added advantage
Job Summary:

Reporting to the KEMRI/CDC GAP Branch Chief, the incumbent will be the point person for all GAP data related matters.

He/she will supervise data management activities ensuring that data is collated for operational research, program evaluations and timely reporting to USG and other stakeholders; work with GAP program leads to provide relevant data and reports for evidence based program implementation; collaborate with the ministry of health in implementation of a functional monitoring and evaluation system; ensure that data quality standards are maintained at highest level; collaborate with ministry of health to foster data use at all levels.

S/he will do M&E training needs assessment, facilitate on job and in-house training on data issues, for health care providers as well as mentor supervisees to build up skills. He/she will participate in report and manuscript writing.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Supervision of data analysts, data clerks, HMIS coordinators, to ensure efficient and effective workflow
  • Support and ensure adherence to study protocols
  • Routine data verification on source documents to ensure completeness of data recording by health care providers
  • Liaison between GAP Data and CDC GAP program technical advisors
  • Liaison between MOH’s provincial level coordinators as well as district level coordinators on HIV/AIDS and KEMRI–CDC on data issues aimed at ensuring synergy
  • Facilitate and participate in training of health care providers on new data capture tools, data management and general monitoring and evaluation of HIV/AIDS programs
  • Conduct routine data quality audits at program implementing health facilities to assure veracity of data reported through the HMIS system.
  • Provide regular reports and on site facility feedback to implementing health facilities on program performance
Terms of Employment:
  • A six (6) 1 year Renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service preceded by a probation period for the first 3 months after employment.
Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on education level, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI scales plus supplemental amounts.
