Athi Water Services Board (AWSB) is one of the eight regional Water Services Boards (WSBs) that were established under the Water Act, 2002.

The Board is responsible for provision of efficient and economical water and sanitation services within the city of Nairobi and its outlying districts of Kiambu East, Kiambu West, Kikuyu, Ruiru, Gatundu South, Gatundu North, Lari, Thika East and Thika West.

It executes its mandate through Water Services Providers (WSPs).

AWSB invites applications from qualified candidates to fill the following vacant positions:

1. Internal Auditor

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager Internal Audit, the position holder will be responsible for:
  • Implementing audit plans and programs

  • Assisting the Manager Internal Audit in carrying out independent tests and assessment of compliance with the established corporation policies, procedures and regulations
  • Assisting in procedural audits in the organization and appointed Water Service Providers (WSPs) to assure the effectiveness of the existing internal control systems
  • Auditing Board asset use and accounting to ascertain effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Auditing all payments made by the Board to ensure compliance with budget provisions, policies, and procedures
  • Assisting in monitoring and reviewing the effectiveness of the risk management framework for adequate corporate governance in AWSB and Water Service Providers.
Requirements for Appointment
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Economics or equivalent qualifications
  • CPA-K, ACCA (Final) or similar qualification
  • Knowledge of computer based accounting auditing techniques.
  • 3 years relevant experience.
2. Human Resource Officer -Training & Development

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of HR and Administration, the position holder will be responsible for:
  • Identifying core competencies of the workforce in the organization and the WSPs
  • Identifying training and development needs within the organisation and WSPs
  • Planning, developing and implementing strategy for staff training and development
  • Managing staff induction and coordinating on-the-job training for new staff
  • Managing regular staff appraisals and reviews to ensure staff have opportunities for ongoing training and development
  • Coordinating management and career development programmes
  • Liaising with training providers to ensure training services are provided when required
  • Monitoring, measuring and reporting on staff training and development plans and achievements within agreed formats and timescales
  • Liaising with functional/departmental managers so as to understand all necessary aspects and needs of staff training and development and ensure that they are fully informed of staff training and development objectives, purposes and achievements.
Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have the following qualifications and competencies:
  • A Bachelor’s degree specializing in Human Resource Management or a Social Science degree plus a Diploma in Human Resource Management or equivalent qualification
  • Familiarity with standard MS office applications and computerized HRIS
  • 3 years relevant experience
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Organizational skills and the ability to plan ahead
  • Effective negotiating skills
  • Proficient knowledge and skill of human resource management, particularly in training and people development
  • Post graduate qualification in Training and Development is an added advantage.
3. Legal Officer

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Board Secretary/Manager Legal Affairs, the position holder will be responsible for:
  • Providing legal advice and counsel to general management level and line managers concerning the laws that impact on their functional areas
  • Assisting in preparation and review of various regulations, agreements and other legal documents plus advising on drafting of contracts
  • Acting as Counsel in Court proceedings and liaising with the Attorney-General’s Chambers and external lawyers on legal matters
  • Monitoring and building compliance capacity of Water Service Providers
  • Undertaking regular legal audits of the organization and its appointed water Service Providers to ensure compliance with the codes of governance and applicable laws plus regulations
  • Assisting the Board Secretary in developing appropriate policies and operational procedures to ensure efficiency and quality of all legal advice
  • Assisting the Board Secretary in investigating compliance issues and responding to regulatory enquiries and examinations
  • Providing support to the Board Secretary in the provision of Company Secretarial services
  • Ensure the safe custody of the organization’s legal documents, contracts and security documentation.
Requirements for Appointment
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB)
  • An advocate of the High Court of Kenya
  • A minimum of 3 years post admission experience as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong communication, writing and presentation skills in both English and Kiswahili.
4. ICT Systems Technician

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager ICT, the position holder will be responsible for:
  • Designing, installing, operating and maintaining information systems technology including local and wide area networks, mainframe, mini and microcomputer systems and associated peripheral devices
  • Writing programs to handle collection, manipulation and distribution of data for a wide variety of applications and requirements
  • Operating and coordinating telecommunications systems including automated networks and the full spectrum of data links and circuits
  • Transmitting, receiving, operating, monitoring, controlling and processing all forms of telecommunications through various transmission media including global networks
  • Applying diagnostic, corrective and recovery techniques to all facets of the integrated information system
  • Maintaining all necessary logs, files and publications at the communications center
  • Providing computer-related training and assistance to a wide variety of personnel.
Requirements for Appointment
  • Diploma in Computer Science/Information Communication Technology or equivalent qualification
  • Excellent facilitation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • 2 years experience in a similar or equivalent role.
5. Assistant Corporate Communications Officer

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Communications, the position holder will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring that e-newsletters and brochures are uploaded on the company website as required and distributed accordingly
  • Ensuring case studies are documented and transferred into electronic formats and uploaded on the net and other software
  • Generating and maintaining a bi-monthly e-newsletter
  • Uploading organization documents on communication applications such as you tube
  • Providing information on AWSB corporate social responsibility activities and distribute to stakeholders as required
  • Receiving blogs and communications from the website and pass these on to the Communications Manager
  • Monitoring website hits and market AWSB website.
Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must the following qualifications and skills:
  • A Diploma/Higher Diploma in Desk Top Publishing, Electronic Communications or other related field
  • Fluency Kiswahili and English
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must have good interpersonal and customer relations skills
  • 2 years experience in a similar role
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
