AMPATH Research Data Manager Job Vacancy in Kenya

The Academic Model Providing Access To Health Care (AMPATH) is a project under the auspices of Moi University School of Medicine and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital whose aim is to provide sustainable efforts in HIV Prevention and Care.

Besides the MTRH site, AMPATH also
runs satellite clinics at 25 outreach sites in Rift Valley, Nyanza & Western provinces.

There are several on-going studies on site including community and clinical trials, epidemiological, basic science, social and behavioural studies.

Investigators use existing electronic databases to select cohorts for prospective studies, retrospective reviews including preliminary studies and case studies.

Regional data from East and Central Africa is also used in operations Research.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate Program manager for Research, the incumbent will among others be responsible of the following:-

  • Liaise with the Clinicians and the Biostatisticians in retrieving data and organizing data for various Research questions from the databases.
  • Ensure quality data for analysis by cleaning Research data retrieved from the databases and document necessary corrections.
  • Perform preliminary analysis to identify potential data anomalies.
  • Prepare quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports to Ministry of Health and funding agencies.
  • Create summary reports for various Research questions, review data management documentation and make updates as necessary.
  • Archive Research data.
  • Contribute to the design of protocols, which define what and when data are to be collected.
  • Design and approve forms on which data are collected.
  • Train clinical Research associates to help improve the quality of the data being collected.
  • Perform Quality Assurance checks.
  • Produce summaries and listings of safety and efficacy data.
  • Advise and perform appropriate queries from the databases and assist in development of associated databases and ensuring they meet requirements for the entry and reporting of clinical data.
  • Test new processes and systems for the management of clinical data.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate must:-
  • Must hold Bachelor of Science in Statistics or Mathematics or related field from a reputable university. Masters in Statistics or Mathematics will be an added advantage
  • Must possess statistical and computer experience of more than 1 year.
  • Must be proficient in statistical software e.g. SAS, SPSS, STATA, S-Plus/R, EpiInfo and spreadsheets.
  • Must be proficient in data analysis, interpretation and manipulation of data, have knowledge of database management and retrieval methods.
  • Must be conversant with word processing, PowerPoint presentation as well as other MS Office applications.
  • Should possess good oral and written communication in English and problem solving skills.
  • Research experience will be an added advantage
