Terms of Reference
Under the supervision of the WHO Representative-Kenya the incumbent will work as the MPS focal point in Kenya

Based in Nairobi, the incumbent will provide technical support to MPS activities in the country in collaboration with the respective provincial, Districts, and Divisions and specifically:-
  • Develop, monitor and evaluate maternal and neonatal country activities within the framework of the national strategy for reproductive health in coordination with the concerned UN and international agencies, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support to the concerned national authorities for the monitoring, evaluation and assessment of their MPS related policies and strategies in order to ensure that the key elements of the Global MPS strategy directions for reducing maternal mortality in the African Region are incorporated.
  • Draw upon technical expertise of WHO when providing support to the local adaptor of relevant norms, standards, tools, technologies and interventions necessary to improve the country's maternal and neonatal healthcare, including the Integrated Management for Pregnancy and Childbirth (IMPAC). Monitor and follow up on WHO supported programmes for MPS to ensure their proper and timely implementation.
  • Attend the reproductive health technical group meetings and other collaborative meetings and activities with the Ministries of Health, WHO and partner agencies. Provide proper documentation of all activities and report to DRH/Regional Office.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned.
Functional Competencies
  • Excellent knowledge of the strategies for maternal and neonatal healthcare.
  • Proven competency in epidemiological surveillance and research and modern training skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Qualifications: University degree in medicine or a postgraduate degree in obstetrics and gynecology
  • Experience: Five years of practical experience at national level in planning, development, implementing, monitoring,managing and supervising maternal and child health programmes. Experience in working with bilateral or multilateral organizations in the country.
  • Language: Fluency in English; knowledge of French will be an added advantage
  • Other Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic epidemiological and statistical analysis.
