KIPPRA Mentor on Institutions Job Vacancy

The Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) is a public policy research Institute established to develop human and institutional capacities for the formulation of medium and long-term strategic perspectives for development in Kenya.

The Institute discharges this mandate by conducting economic forecasting, policy analysis and research, and capacity building on relevant public policy issues.

To meet its growing needs, the Institute is seeking a qualified, experienced and dynamic candidate to fill the position of Mentor at the Institute.

Key Responsibilities:

The mentor will be expected to participate in inter-divisional research on institutions leading to publication of a book.

Specifically, the mentor will, among other duties, be expected to:

  • Provide guidance and feedback to the authors of the various chapters of the book
  • Be available for consultation by the authors
  • Serve as one of the editors of the book
  • Give seminar presentations on relevant subject matter
  • Prepare a policy brief and any other publications on the subject
Other tasks will include:
  • Providing support to Young Professionals during their training
  • Providing support to staff publishing research papers in international journals
  • Advising staff on appropriate further training
Job Requirements

The ideal candidate should have PhD qualification in institutional economics, sociology, public administration, political science, law or related areas with at least 10 years research and/or teaching experience in institutional economics, institutional development, public sector governance, law or governance-related matters focusing on institutional architecture and design issues, transaction cost reduction, institutional coordination, among others.

The candidate should be well versed on institutional theory, policy and practice, and should have a strong publications record in refereed journals.

In addition, the candidate should have a history of developing, mentoring and motivating research professionals in Kenya and elsewhere. Well-developed editorial and communication skills and ability to lead and work in a team environment are essential.

Successful candidates will be employed on full time basis for 9 months. All qualified candidates, including non-Kenyans with valid work permits, are encouraged to apply.
