Our client is a leading private Institution of Higher Learning., located in Nairobi.

Our client seeks a superior 
Human Resource Managerwho can champion change management, coordinate implementation of services, policies and programs through Human Resource staff.

The incumbent will serve on the Executive Management team to advise company managers on Human Resource issues, and define strategies to be implemented through the related policies and procedures.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to think strategically and possess in-depth knowledge of current HR practices and trends.

The incumbent will have excellent leadership, business acumen, decision making and communication skills. He or she will be thoroughly conversant with employment legislation and will have the personality to operate effectively at all levels.

Job Purpose:

  • To provide strategic leadership and management oversight for the Human Resources, Staff Development and Administration functions in matters of strategy, policy compliance and operations in line with Institutional strategic mission, vision and corporate values.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Guide strategic planning and orientation of the HR and Staff Development Departments
  • Liaise with other Departmental Heads to initiate, propose and facilitate any organization development changes required in the Institution
  • Foster effective methods of goal setting, communication and empowerment through responsibility and building employee ownership of the institution
  • Ensure that Institutional staff are in a position to enable it achieve its objectives through overseeing recruitment, staff development and performance management both at policy, planning and implementation levels in liaison with other Departments
  • Assist in establishing and sustaining the organizational culture and climate in which employees have the competency, concern and commitment to serve customers well.
  • Initiate and propose and recommendations for transfers, promotions and dismissal for the staff in the department
  • Ensure compliance of the Department’s activities with the organization’s strategy
  • Review, formulate and update the Departmental policies to comply with the strategic orientation and to effectively address the Institutions current challenges
  • Champion People Management issues such as disciplinary issues; staff welfare with significant legal implications
  • Oversee the remuneration administration to ascertain adequate staff motivation and performance
  • Provide employee development opportunities, employee assistance programs, organization development interventions, due process approaches to problem solving and regularly scheduled communication opportunities.
  • Ensure safe custody of all staff confidential information
  • Ensure that the HR and Staff Development are run efficiently and effectively
  • Initiate, negotiate for, evaluate, contract –manage and oversee any outsourced service provider operations within the institution.
Qualifications:
  • A Masters Degree in Human Resource Management
Work Experience:
  • At least eight years experience in Human Resources Management in a busy environment
  • Experience in academic institutions or set ups with highly specialized technical staff operating in dynamic market environment would be an added advantage
Competencies:
  • Strategic in mindset and sense of corporate result focus
  • Good administrative and coordination skills
  • Ability to manage and sustain high cost centre performance, compliance and performance standards
  • Good budgeting and financial management skills
  • Good people management skills
  • Ability to effectively supervise, motivate, train, mentor and performance – manage staff
  • Good networking and relationship building skills
  • IT Proficiency.
Remuneration:

Monthly gross salary of between Kes 125-175,000/= per month, plus benefits
