Program description: This program is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research in malaria, HIV and other diseases.
To effectively carry out its mandate, the Program has a vacancy in its Global AIDS Program (GAP).

Essential Requirements

  • Must be a holder of PHD, or MD Degree with a masters, or Equivalent
  • At least three years experience in clinical, epidemiological, sociological, demographic or  population science program management and/or research
  • Have supervisory experience including effective management of support personnel
  • Excellent English skills, written and verbal
  • Good judgment in program solving, awareness of own limitations, and strong Internal motivation.
  • Proven experience working with statistical packages
Job summary: The incumbent will be a branch chief for the KEMRI GAP Program overseeing all the GAP HIV program activities implemented by KEMRI/CDC. He/she will also oversee operational research studies being conducted under the GAP KEMRI/CDC program.
Duties and responsibilities:
The incumbent will be overseeing the KEMRI/CDC GAP program and research activities which include:
  • Leading and managing the GAP KEMRI/CDC Cooperative Agreement
  • Leading the KEMRI GAP team with regards to the vision of PEPFAR support in Nyanza, in particular in the KEMRI/CDC Health and Demographic Surveillance Area
  • Supporting and supervising staff in the GAP KEMRI/CDC program
  • Prioritizing GAP KEMRI/CDC program activities as well as the research agenda
  • Overseeing, leading and supporting implementation of HIV services in the regions supported by KEMRI/ CDC
  • Overseeing operational research, including protocol design, data collection, data analysis and reporting writing.
  • Representing GAP-KEMRI at CDC and KEMRI senior science forums Effectively representing the GAP-KEMRI program in national and international venues
Terms of Employment: Six (6), 1 year renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period fpr the first 3 months. Salary negotiable depending on education, experience and demonstrated competency.
