Immediate Supervisor: Head of Knowledge Management Division
Duty Station: Addis Ababa
Major duties and responsibilities:
As a part of team led by the Head of Knowledge Management Division, the Policy Officer (Knowledge Management) shall report to the Head of the Knowledge Management Division.
She/he shall be required to apply technical knowledge in contributing to the implementation and support of IT solutions aimed at improving the Knowledge Management Systems.

Summary of Key Functions of the KM Policy Officer:

  • Carry out requirements analysis for the design of software systems.
  • Design IT solutions using modern software engineering methodologies and tools.
  • Implement software systems, including acceptance testing, user training and the preparation of documentation.
  • Maintain existing software systems.
  • To Represent the Commission of the African Union in seminars, workshops, experts meetings and training sessions on knowledge management and share lessons learnt from these sessions for improving knowledge management at AUC.
  • To perform any other duty as may be assigned
Educational Qualifications:
  • Candidates must have an Advance University degree in software engineering (e.g. information management, electronic engineering or computer science).
  • Qualifications in software development will be an asset.
Work experience:
Candidates must have five years of relevant professional experience in systems support and development of large-scale applications which should include experience of programming and structured system analysis and design with relational database systems, procedural programming languages using GUI and WEB based development tools
Other Relevant Skills Required
  • Thorough understanding of software engineering processes and the software engineering life cycle.
  • Thorough knowledge of Web programming (Javascript, PHP, HTML) and knowledge of one or more of ERP5, C/C++, Java, XML, or Scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of relational database management software (e.g. SQL Server) and SQL.
  • Knowledge of Windows client/server environments.
  • Ability to focus on customer/user needs and satisfaction.
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to prepare software-related documentation.
  • Good organizing skills to work simultaneously on different projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary/multicultural teams with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Experience in the field of KM systems/programmes and development of knowledge products.
Language requirement: Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages. Knowledge of one or several other working languages would be an added advantage.
Age requirement: Candidates must preferably be between 25 and 35 years old.
Tenure of Appointment:
The appointment shall be for an initial period of eleven (11) months, the first three months of which shall be on probation. It shall be renewable subject to performance and availability of funds.

Remuneration:
The salary attached to the position is an annual lump-sum of US$ ,69,392.86 inclusive of all allowances for internationally recruited staff, and US$ 57,789.27inclusive of all allowances for locally recruited staff
