Job Summary
Food for the Hungry International, a Christian relief and development agency, is looking for a Program Manager to head its Water and Sanitation Program. This is a senior level position responsible for providing leadership in formulation, planning and implementation of WASH activities, including strategy development and fundraising.
Specific Duties

Key result 1: Leadership and strategic development for the WASH program

  • To provide leadership for the implementation of FH/Kenya’s water and sanitation programs.
  • Design and formulate, along with the Program Director, the general framework and strategy of the WASH Program, including needs assessment for expansion.
  • Design and implement the system of monitoring and strategic assessment of the country program.
Key result 2: Liaison, communication and reporting
  • Oversee and ensure effective communication with donors and relevant stakeholders
  • Compile, edit and disseminate quality donor reports and other recipients
  • To ensure timely and accurate reporting on water and sanitation programs per the project monitoring and evaluation plan and donor requirements;
  • To develop annual detailed implementation plans for the program with the project team and ensure that the plan is followed by monitoring implementation and ensuring achievement of agreed targets;
Key result 3: Staff and financial management
  • To supervise and ensure all water and sanitation project staff are fulfilling their assigned roles
  • To provide capacity building activities for staff and relevant partners to facilitate implementation of planned activities
  • Design, implement and maintain efficient planning, budget management, assessment and formulation of WASH program.
  • Institute frequent management meeting with key staff (Coordinator, Supervisor level) to ensure closer feed-back loops to ensure more “real time” programming
  • In collaboration with Finance Department, track project expenditures and ensure the budget is followed; supervise and manage the budget for all water and sanitation programming.
Competencies & Skills
1.     Holder of B.Sc in water and environmental engineering or its equivalent from a reputable training institution.
2.     A minimum of 5 years experience working in ASAL areas, on community based water, hygiene and sanitation projects, in an NGO setting.
3.     Practical knowledge in design of community water and sanitation system.
4.     Experience in proposal writing WASH programs, especially for USAID and or other international donors
5.     Excellent report writing, interpersonal and communications skills
6.     Knowledgeable in computer packages e.g., MS-Word, Excel, etc.
7.     Accident free driving license with over 3 years experience will be an added advantage.
8.     Enthusiastic and committed to serve the poor in relation to FH/Kenya’s Christian foundation and beliefs
Title: Coordinator – Livestock and NRM Programs – 1 position
Reporting to: Pastoralist Livelihood Program Manager (PLP)
Duty Station: Isiolo Closing Date of Application: 28th May, 2010
Qualified candidates are invited to apply for the position of a Coordinator in Livestock Program. The successful candidate will be offered a Fixed Term Appointment for one and a half years with a probation period of three (3) months. Further extension will be based on organizational needs, funding availability and satisfactory performances.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
  • The Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the livestock and NRM program activities related to livestock production, marketing activities, animal health and conflict resolution.
  • He/she will also liaise with livestock experts from Government of Kenya and other agencies in addressing NRM and Livestock issues.
  • In liaison with the management team, the Coordinator will offer technical advice and supervision to the other livestock staff below this position.
Major responsibilities
  • Coordinate livestock and NRM related activities in Isiolo district
  • Updating the PLP Manager on the programs related issues
  • Should be on the look out for new knowledge/technology related to Livestock and Natural Resources development and advice on how best it can be applied to FH/K pastoralist program objectives
  • Collaborate in establishment of a network of contact farmer groups, environmental committees and other stake holder group to achieve desired goal.
  • Coordinate the daily activities of the NRM officers, ensuring that required reports and information are completed and submitted in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring that FH/K and PLP objectives are adhered to, and providing support and discipline as required.
  • To liaise with all livestock stake holders at District level
  • Manage overall livestock activity and establishment of market sites and operations as per FH/Ks specifications
  • Linking financial services to livestock marketing groups
Qualifications / Experience
  • Must have a BSc – Agriculture or Livestock production , Range Management or its equivalent from a recognised institution
  • 3 years working experience in Pastoralists and Food Security development sectors in both public and private sectors.
  • Experience working in ASAL rural setting and ready to work in insecurity areas.
  • Committed to sector activities with an understanding of Pastoralists dynamics and skills in Conflict resolution.
  • Should be a committed Christian who should be actively involved in the activities of the local church
  • Should have a valid Motorbike riding license
  • Must be computer literate and be very conversant with excel, Ms Word and ability to generate report through the computer.
