Science Secretary I

Basic Salary Scale: Ksh.40,835   -   Ksh.49,636   p.m. (Job Group ‘N’)
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:
1.     have served for at least ten (10) years in Research or a related field, three (3) of which should have been in Job Group ‘M’ or in a comparable grade in the wider Public Service;
2.     have a Master’s degree in any of the following fields: Physical Sciences (including Chemical Science and Mathematics), Industrial Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Medical Sciences (including Pharmacology), Natural Sciences (Biosciences and Geosciences) and Social Sciences;
3.     have shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results; and
4.     be results oriented and a team player.
Duties and Responsibilities


Duties and responsibilities will include:
1.     implementing and evaluating research projects in his/her area of specialization;
2.     organizing seminars, workshops, science parks, field days and symposia for dissemination of research findings;
3.     designing methodologies of conducting targeted and policy oriented special studies to generate data for planning and management of programmes within the sector;
4.     protecting research findings (copyright and patent law implementation); and
5.     compiling technical information and developing software for research coordination and data processing.
Science Secretary II

Basic Salary Scale: Ksh.35,275 – Ksh.42,877 p.m. (Job Group ‘M’)
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:
1.     have served for at least eight (8) years in Research or related field, three (3) of which should have at Job Group ‘N’ or in a comparable grade in the wider Public Service;
2.     possess a Master’s degree in any of the following: Physical Sciences (including Chemical Science and Mathematics), Industrial Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Medical Sciences (including Pharmacology), Natural Sciences (Biosciences and Geosciences) and Social Sciences;
3.     have shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results; and
4.     be results oriented and a team player.
Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry grade for this cadre. The Science Secretary II will be regarded as being on the job training for a minimum period of three (3) years. The officer will be assigned specific duties in the relevant field of specialization and will work under close supervision of an experienced officer.
Duties and responsibilities will include:
1.     preparing  documents and  minutes  of the  relevant committees of the Council;
2.     ensuring implementation of research projects funded by the Council;
3.     organizing seminars and workshops for dissemination of research findings;
4.     designing methodologies of conducting targeted policy oriented special studies to generate data for planning and management of programmes within the sector; and
5.     monitoring and evaluating research projects funded by the Council.
Senior Education Officer
Five (5) Posts

Basic Salary Scale: Ksh.35,275   -   Ksh.42,877   p.m. (Job Group ‘M’)
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
1.     served for at least eight (8) years in the field of Education, three (3) of which should have been at Job Group ‘L’ or  in a comparable position in the wider Public Service;
2.     a Bachelor’s degree in Education; and
3.     demonstrated merit, managerial and administrative ability in work performance and results.
Duties and Responsibilities
A Senior Education Officer will be deployed in the Directorate of Higher Education at the Ministry Headquarters.
Duties and responsibilities will include:
1.     administration and management of Higher Education Programmes/Projects that are related to both local and overseas university education;
2.     compiling of projects reports and data regarding university education in liaison with Universities, Commission for Higher Education, Higher Education Loans Board and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
