Natural Resource Management Project Upper Tana Catchment Livelihood Component

Three Partner Organizations, namely the Water Resources Management Authority, The Kenya Forestry Service and the National Irrigation Board are being assisted through World Bank funded Natural Resources management project. The objective of the NRM project is to enhance institutional capacity to manage water and forest resources in a sustainable and participatory way. The NRM Project has four components.
Call For Proposals / Media Release
The third component provides investments in livelihood enhancing community projects, and provides a demand driven window of funding for livelihood investments in the Upper Tana Catchment. Using a Community Driven Development (CDD) approach, livelihood enhancing micro-projects proposals are being sought from Community Groups which support the natural resource base.
Projects in the following sectors are eligible:
  • Fisheries;
  • Agriculture/horticulture;
  • Irrigation
  • Livestock production;
  • Forestry and tree nursery development;
  • Food processing;

  • Improved Fuel Use Efficiency
  • Power production based on renewal energy;
  • Block making;
  • Projects based on the utilization and/or improvement of natural resource base;
  • CBO Capacity building.
MICRO Project Grants
  • Micro Project Grants are to be provided up to a ceiling amount of Kshs 1 million
  • Micro Project Grants are to be provided up to a maximum of 70% of the cash requirements of a project
  • Grants are to be provided for a range of activities to support livelihoods enhancing micro projects.
Eligibility
The applicant must be a registered community self help groups and must:
  • have been registered for at least three years prior to the date for this Call for Proposals
  • Be active and have field activities ongoing
  • Have a bank account
  • Provide evidence of 1/3 of the costs of the project as evidenced by such an amount in their bank account
  • be registered with one of the following:
1.     A Water Resources Users Association
2.     A Community Forest Association
3.     An Irrigation Water Users Association
Duration
  • The projects are to be completed within a 12 month time frame
Deadline
  • The first call for proposal deadline is 23rd June 2010
