Catholic Diocese of Nakuru – Justice & Peace Commission Project Officer (Peace Building) Job Vacancy

The Diocese wishes to recruit highly motivated and competent individuals to fill the following positions.
1. Project Officer (Peace Building)
The broad objective of the Commission is to examine and study problems associated with Justice and Peace, with the aim of awakening God’s people to full understanding of these problem, so that they can effectively participate in finding appropriate solutions.
Reporting to Executive Secretary – Commission for Justice & Peace, the main purpose of the position is to support Catholic Diocese of Nakuru in the implementation of the People to People Peace Project (3Ps) in Kuresoi. He/she will do this by promoting dialogue and reconciliation among the different social groups in Kuresoi, consequently encouraging renewed relationships and commitment to sustainable peace.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Support community mobilizers in the formation of peace structures
  • Facilitating Intra/inter-community dialogue forums
  • Together with community mobilizers monitor the community peace structures
  • Where possible attend and resolve local disputes
  • Document  early warnings and early response indicators
Qualifications:

The successful candidate must:
  • Hold at least a bachelor degree in social sciences, peace and conflict or development studies
  • Be fluent in English and Kiswahili; knowledge of local languages is an asset
  • Be committed, flexible and able to work under pressure
  • Be able to collect, compile and analyze reports
  • Be familiar with Donor reporting guidelines standard and able to train/facilitate community groups
  • Be a good organizer and excellent communication as well as intercultural skills
  • Have 2 years of experience in a development work or emergency situation
  • Have at least 1 year of field experience in conflict settings, with a demonstrated experience in peacebuilding activities at the grassroots level.
  • Have a proven track record of successful report writing skills

  • Demonstrates an awareness of gender issues in relation to humanitarian and peacebuilding  work
  • Valid driving license
