African Union Accounts Assistants Jobs

The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged with spearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and African States as well as developing a new partnership worldwide. Its Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.
In seeking to achieve this objective, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacity to deliver by, among others, the implementation of its organizational structure and the filling of all vacant posts.
Job Title: Accounts Assistants 
Grade: GSA5 Supervisor: Finance and Administrative Officer Duty Station: Banjul (Gambia), Brussels (Belgium), Nairobi (Kenya), Geneva (Switzerland), Lagos (Nigeria) and Newyork (USA)

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

The major duties and responsibilities of the Accounts Assistant are as follows:
  • Classifying, coding and posting of  transactions into the Accounting Software;
  • Analyzing accounts and establishing correct balances;
  • Verifying the correctness and completeness of supplier invoices, contracts and orders before entering into the Accounting Software;
  • Assist in proper processing of fund transactions and in financial reports preparation, both  for donors and internal management;
  • Assist in process of ensuring that fund disbursements are made for expenditures indicated in the budget/work plan for executing programmes/projects as specified.
  • Assist in budget drafting, monitoring and control.;
  • Perform any other relevant duty/ responsibility assigned.
Educational Qualification
  • A minimum of a recognized college Diploma or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or other directly related disciplines.
Work Experience
At least 3 years of progressively responsible practical experience (two of which must have been spent in a supervisory position) in Accounting, Finance and budgeting in a major Government, International or public sector organization.
Other Relevant Skills
  • Financial management and analytical skills in a Donor funded environment;
  • Good interpersonal, report writing and communication skills;
  • Excellent computer skills with practical knowledge of and experience in accounting softwares.
Language Requirement
  • Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages is a requirement;
  • Knowledge of one or more of the other AU working languages would be an added advantage.
Age Requirement
  • Candidates must preferably be between 30 and 45 years old.

Tenure of Appointment
The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.

Remuneration
Indicative basic salary of US$11,316.00 per annum plus other related entitlements-e.g. post adjustment (46% of basic salary for Banjul, 54% for Brussels, 42% for Nairobi, 64% for Geneva, 56% for Newyork and 57% for Lagos), Housing allowance ($10, 598.4 for Banjul, $13,248 for Brussels and Nairobi, $13,248.00 for Lagos, $17,884.8 for Newyork and $15,508.8 for Geneva per annum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the commission.
