Finance Manager

Job Description:
  • Responsible for overseeing the company`s financial accounting, monitoring and reporting systems;
  • ensuring compliance of financial statements with IFRS and ISA policies and procedures and guidelines and professional ethics;
  • keeping abreast of changes in financial regulations and legislation;
  • Company investment appraisals;
  • Spearheading the development and implementation of the provision of payroll and other financial management services to external clients;
  • recommending effective cost reduction strategies for adoption by the Company;
  • compiling and preparing company annual budget;
  • participate in internal audits as scheduled and provide auditors with accounting documents as requested and provide explanation on audit queries;
  • budget monitoring and reporting;
  • preparation of annual and management accounts;
  • ensuring timely preparation of accurate monthly expenditure reports for all departments;
  • providing guidance on costing and pricing of products;
  • monitoring and interpreting cash flows and predicting future trends;
  • researching and reporting on factors influencing business performance;
  • supervising and appraising assigned staff periodically and annually; and
  • performing any other duties assigned by the Managing Director or Deputy Managing Director.
Minimum Qualifications


  • A Masters degree in Business Administration plus at least 8 years relevant experience at senior management level;
  • an undergraduate degree in accounting;
  • CPA(K) or its equivalent and be a member of ICPAK;
  • good knowledge of Kenyan tax laws;
  • relevant computer skills.
Lead, Payroll

Job Description
  • Responsible for payroll for all UNES Corporate and all business units as well as direct service providers;
  • continuous improvement and streamlining of delivery systems to increase efficiency, timeliness and customer satisfaction;
  • posting payment vouchers into the system;
  • monitoring the unit`s DSP expenses and ensuring they are within the approved limits;
  • liaising with the units as and when necessary;
  • ensuring that all deductions( statutory and voluntary) are remitted in a timely manner;
  • monitoring bank account transactions and balances;
  • preparing DSPs apportionment statements;
  • cash book maintenance; preparing and providing cash flow statements to DSP expenses;
  • preparing p9 forms for staff and DSPs;
  • assisting in the preparation of management and final accounts; and
  • performing any other duties assigned by the Managing Director from time to time.
Minimum qualification
  • A degree in Business Administration( accounting option) or its equivalent;
  • at least 4 years relevant experience in a similar position

Lead, Expenditure

  • Responsible for all non-payroll payments;
  • ensuring that once approvals have been made all payments to vendors for goods and services are promptly paid and accounted for;
  • custodian of all accountable documents for creditors payments e.g. cheque books;
  • budgetary control for all expenditure items;
  • maintaining the fixed asset register and performing any other duties assigned by the Managing Director from time to time.

  • Responsible for accounting functions in the bookstore;
  • maintaining a system of internal control in the bookstore;

  • managing cash flows for the bookstores;
  • ensuring integrity of accounting information;
  • ensuring that all ledger accounts are reconciled;
  • supervising accounting staff;
  • preparing annual budgets and budgetary control;
  • preparing management reports; and
  • preparing final accounts

  • Responsible for the collection of tuition fees and issuance of fees statements;
  • banking of daily collections and preparation of daily transaction summaries;
  • collecting of application fees and issuing of application forms;
  • recording and receipting of incoming institutional cheques such as Bursaries, Constituency Development Fund, and UoN staff deductions; and
  • any other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Minimum Qualification
  • Diploma in Business Management or equivalent

Head, Internal Audit

Job Description
  • Managing the internal audit function;
  • facilitating the Audit Committee meetings through the Managing Director and provides the committee with a secretariat;
  • evaluating the effectiveness of internal controls in the organization;
  • preparing the audit programmes in line with the Audit Charter and the Audit Committee agreed areas of focus,
  • facilitating the development of a strong internal audit team through training;
  • facilitating the conduct of audit by the external auditors-Kenya National Audit Office-Auditor General Corporation;
  • carrying out systems control audit through computerized systems;
  • ensuring compliance of financial statements with IFRS and ISA policies and procedures and guidelines and professional ethics;
  • managing staff performance appraisal within the unit; and
  • recommending effective cost reduction strategies for adoption by the Company.
Minimum Qualification
  • A degree in business Administration(Accounting option) or its equivalent;
  • 5 years auditing experience in a large organization;
  • registered member of ICPAK( for the last five years);
  • good knowledge of modern auditing methodologies, ISA and IFRSs;
  • good working knowledge of Kenyan tax laws;
  • good communication skills and able to conduct computer based audits.
Lead Expenditure Audit

Job Description
  • Auditing all expenditure items including those from the incoming generating units and DSPs;
  • reviewing DSP payment vouchers and audit approvals;
  • preparing monthly expenditure reports;
  • reviewing fixed assets register;
  • verifying purchases made and following of procurement procedure;
  • carrying out audit procedures and preparing audit working papers and also document working papers;
  • determining the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls;
  • providing assistance to External Auditors as requested;
  • compliance with existing regulations, instructions and procedures in financial and other operations;
  • participating in end year stock taking exercise;
  • reviewing audit working papers and ensuring maintenance of high standards of audit within UNES;
  • identifying activities subject to audit coverage, evaluate their significance and assess the degree of risk involved that would make it difficult to attain the set objectives and carrying out other duties assigned by management.
Minimum Qualification
  • A degree in Business Administration( accounting option) or its equivalent;
  • 3 years experience in a large organization;
  • CPA(K);
  • registered member of ICPAK( for the last 3 years);
  • good knowledge of modern auditing methodologies, ISA and IFRSs, knowledge of Kenyan tax laws;
  • good communication skills, good customer relations and able to conduct computer based audits.
Cashier

Job Description
  • Receiving, receipting, banking all sales proceeds relating to the Arziki restaurant;
  • billing all credit sales;
  • maintenance of debtors records;
  • book keeping daily sales and expenses;
  • operation of a tax register;
  • safe custody of daily sales;
  • balancing of daily cash/cheques collection with the Manager.
Minimum Qualification
  • KCSE Grade C+; CPA II or its equivalent with at least 3 years experience in a busy environment( cashiering experience in a hospital/ restaurant/ or an educational institution will be an added advantage);
  • good interpersonal skills;
  • excellent computer skills;
  • ability to work long hours including Saturdays.
