Regional Programme Coordinator and Financial Services: Swedish Cooperative Centre (SCC) Jobs in Kenya

The Swedish Cooperative Centre (SCC) is a Swedish NGO founded in 1958 by the Swedish co-operative movement. SCC contributes to strengthening the capacity of cooperatives, farmers’ organisations and other democratic groups in Africa, Latin America, Asia and Eastern Europe with the aim of improving the livelihoods of the poor.

In Eastern Africa region, SCC is working with partners to implement development programmes in three key sectors of rural development, financial services and the right to adequate housing. SCC recognizes that gender inequality as well as HIV and AIDS negatively impact on our development work with partners.

In addressing this, SCC uses a mainstreaming approach to ensure that Gender and HIV/AIDS issues are addressed in all our development cooperation with partners.

SCC Regional Office for Eastern Africa (ROEA) currently operates in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania and is now seeking to recruit a
 Regional Programme Coordinator - Financial Services.

The responsibilities will be regional, but the position will be based in the Regional Office for Eastern Africa in Nairobi and reports to the Regional Director. All professional staff members of SCC’s Regional Office are part of and contribute to a team organisation, in which exchange of experience, continuous dialogue, creation of synergies, etc. is stimulated.

The main responsibilities are:
  • Development and coordination of the SCC regional programme within the area of financial services in accordance with SCC strategy, internal donor regulations as well as general good practices. This also includes Budget Management.
  • Development and documentation of policies and strategies as well as new concepts and methods.
  • Exchange and networking with cooperative and other organizations, establishment of linkages with SCC Member Organisations, advocacy, etc. related to the sector.
  • Continuous relations with and providing technical assistance to the relevant partners and the programme management of the respective projects implemented by the partner organisations.
  • Promote the development of policies and strategies as well as new concepts and methods for the cross cutting issues of Democracy & Human Rights, HIV/AIDS and Gender Equality in the regional programme and ensure that the aspects are mainstreamed in all development efforts of SCC in the region.
The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications:
  • University Degree in relevant areas of Business, Economics or Finance. A Masters degree in the relevant field will be an added advantage
  • At least 5 years professional experience in Microfinance.
  • Financial & Programme Management capacity.
  • Good skills in planning, monitoring and evaluation of projects and result-based management
  • Good computer skills in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Fluent in verbal and written English and Kiswahili.
  • Ability to work in teams and network with other stakeholders.
  • Analytical, with good management skills and ability to work independently.
