The Kenya Nile Discourse Forum (KNDF) is an umbrella of civil society organizations in western Kenya, whose goal is to preserve the river Nile Basin, where resources are equitably and sustainably developed and managed, benefiting all its inhabitants, with the purpose of promoting and adding value to Nile cooperation and development processes that will ultimately reduce poverty in the region.

In pursuit of its objectives KNDF, is presently looking to recruit two key staff to be based in Kisumu, as part of the broader mandate to strengthening its institutional capacity.

Job Title: 
National Programme Coordinator 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage



    KNDF programs, effectively implement the strategic plan, goals and objectives and manage day to day functional activities ofNDF.
  • Work with the KNDF Board to identify opportunities for new projects.
  • Liaise with networks of organizations working within the Nile Basin to lobby for the attainment of national, trans-border and regional priorities
  • Spearhead the development and implementation of KNDF's knowledge management policy.
  • Conduct media sensitization on the Nile Basin though print, electronic media and publicity events.
  • Coordinate the reflections and learning sessions with appropriate sharing and dissemination of experiences and lessons learned both internally and externally.
  • Support the NDF Board during its meetings
  • Manage implementation of all national activities within limits of budgeted resources available
  • Generate progress and performance reports vis-a-vis annual action plans and strategic objectives with explanations for deviations
Relevant Qualifications/Experience:

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a Masters Degree in relevant discipline i.e. Development, Economics, International Relations, Governance and environmental Management
  • Additional professional training in Programme management an added advantage
Experience:
  • At least 5 years of experience in several of the following areas:
  • Professional work experience within development agencies in Senior Management positions of not less than 5 years
  • Experience in development, economics and policy issues
  • Demonstrable knowledge of, and experience in Civil society issues with special attention to managing thematic network
  • Hands on experience in programme planning, coordination, fundraising, monitoring and management of public sector programmes
Competencies:
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Software and IT packages
  • Fluency in English, good writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to collect and analyse data (strategic and analytical mind)
Job Title: National Administrative Assistant 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the National Programme Coordinator in implementing. Monitoring & Evaluation of KNDF programs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of capacity building program for KNDF members.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports for submission to donors, partners and other stakeholders.
  • Assist the National Programme Coordinator in implementing the monitoring and evaluation framework and system to ensure effective implementation of the strategic plan and key program initiatives.
  • Liaise with the Knowledge & Communication Officer on the dissemination of lessons learned in programme implementation.
  • Assist in advocacy at the NDF
Qualification
  • A first degree in a relevant field
Ability & Skills
  • An ability to write clear and concise reports
  • Proven ability to produce results within tight deadlines in a very busy environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to interact effectively with a geographically dispersed multicultural team composed of international and national personnel
  • Analytical skills and decision making ability even in complex and sensitive situations
  • Demonstrable project management skills
  • Demonstrable communication skills for a broad variety of target groups
  • Capacity building of finance, non-finance staff, partners and community members
