Ophthalmic Surgeon and Cataract Surgeon

Sabatia Eye Hospital is a faith based eye hospital located in Sabatia District Western Province. It serves the entire Western, Nyanza and part of the Rift valley provinces and it is the third largest eye care provider in the country. The hospital provides high volume high quality eye care services at the base, extensive outreach programs to underserved areas and training of eye care workers in the region and beyond.

The hospital seeks to recruit an Ophthalmic Surgeon and Cataract Surgeon. The key result of these positions is to drive the hospital towards better quality eye care service provision and


self sustainability.

1. Ophthalmologist /Ophthalmic Surgeon

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To work closely with the administration, human resource and financial management team of the eye hospital,
  • To be able to take charge of the medical services of the hospital
  • To develop partnership with local and other organizations that will support the eye care service delivery at the Hospital.
  • To represent the hospital in order to develop partnership with local and other organizations that will support the eye care service delivery at the hospital.
  • Willing and committed to work in a rural set up (Hospital) for a minimum of five years as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • To participate and coordinate the training of all levels of eye care professionals
Minimum Qualification and Requirements
  • Fully qualified ophthalmologist,
  • Must have a registration/recognition certificate as a specialist Ophthalmologist.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years experience in a busy Eye Unit or Hospital.
  • Competent in small incision cataract surgery (SICS) and Phaco surgery.
  • Experience in pediatric cataract and other surgeries in children.
  • Able to undertake a variety of ophthalmic surgical procedures including squint surgery, Glaucoma surgery, DCR surgery and laser treatment
2. Cataract Surgeon

Qualifications & Responsibilities:
  • Higher National Diploma in Ophthalmic clinical medicine / Cataract surgery from KMTC, or any other recognized institution.
  • Ability to do small incision cataract surgery (SICS)
  • Should have 3-5 years experience of cataract surgery in a busy set up, must be well motivated and committed to work in a rural setup for a minimum of three years, be a team player and willing to work over weekends.
  • Ability and willingness to teach and coordinate training programs,
