1. Assistant Director, Policy Development and Research

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Executive Director, Research Centre, the job holder will be responsible for evolving an internationally recognised policy research program in areas of interest to the stakeholders of the Research Centre. This position will also support the growth to international standards of the Research/Academic Centre.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for the development of a research plan and budget that addresses key strategic policy areas, leading in producing evidence based policy positions and ensuring that the Research Centre responds appropriately to developments in those policy areas as per stakeholder requirements.
  2. Support and also undertake rigorous research and policy analysis for the Research Centre and ensure local, regional, and international dissemination of results.
  3. Contribute to the development of policy and campaign strategies, including facilitating networking between researchers and other networks.
  4. Develop funding proposals; write articles, briefing papers, reports and speeches for external and internal publication.
  5. Train academic and research staff on documents and proposal writing.
  6. Teach in Research Centre’s programmes.
  7. Carrying out other specific activities as required by the Executive Director.
Essential Skills and Experience:
  1. A PhD in Economics or Business related fields with minimum 5 years of demonstrable experience in developing evidence based policies at a senior level. Or a Masters in Economics or Business related fields with minimum 10 years of demonstrable experience in developing evidence based policies at a senior level. The experience would have been gained in managing a division/department/unit/faculty/centre.
  2. Evidence of publications in refereed journals or published works.
  3. Demonstrated experience in developing funding proposals and good document writing/editing skills.
  4. Experience in working with Bilateral and Multilateral agencies.
  5. Excellent inter-personal and influencing skills at all levels.
  6. Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  7. Age: 35 – 50 years.
2. Assistant Director, Academic Affairs

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Executive Director, the job holder will be responsible for taking the institution’s graduate and other academic programmes to international standards.

Key duties and responsibilities
  1. Encourage and support activities and innovations to improve teaching, learning, and research at the institution to international standards.
  2. Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and the faculty to develop an annual academic plan and budget for the institution’s Academic Centre consistent with the mission and its strategic plan.
  3. Manage all operations and staffing associated with the Academic Centre functions including instructional media, library, learning support and tutorial programs, academic computing, advising, registration, staff support, laboratory equipment and supplies, and classroom operations.
  4. Develop and implement a Performance Management and Appraisal System for faculty and support staff of the Academic Centre.
  5. Support the creation of a favourable learning environment for the diverse student population.
  6. Teach in the institution’s programmes.
  7. Spearhead the institution’s efforts to seek external funding for support of academic programming and monitor compliance with awards requirements.
Essential Skills and Experience:
  1. A PhD in Economics or Business related fields with minimum 3 years of demonstrable experience in managing a division/department/unit/faculty/centre.
  2. Evidence of publications in refereed journals or published textbooks.
  3. Experience in supervision of post-graduate students.
  4. Demonstrated experience in developing funding proposals and good document writing/editing skills.
  5. Excellent inter-personal and influencing skills at all levels.
  6. Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  7. Age: 35 – 50 years.
