Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) Project Officers - Field based

Purpose of the positions:

To guide and supervise implementation of WASH projects in IPAs, support development of staff and community capacity building in WASH, participate in mobilization of WASH resources and ensure implementation is done in close collaboration with WV Kenya staff, the local community, the Kenyan government and other relevant agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify viable water technological options within the Integrated Project Area (IPA);
  • Provide support in implementation of Water and sanitation and Hygiene projects to ensure quality, effectiveness and timely implementation;
  • Develop implementation plans and monitor implementation of WASH project activities in the IPAs including grant projects.
  • Liaise with consultants and government line ministries in providing relevant technical advice
  • Facilitate legal processes and documentation of projects e.g water drilling permits
  • Supervise all construction works within the IPA
  • Participate in development of timely and accurate funding proposals in line with donor requirements and WVK standards;
  • Capacity building of staff and communities in programming and implementation of WASH activities;
  • Promote advocacy on Water, sanitation and Hygiene issues within the programme area.
  • Document and disseminate best practices on Water and sanitation projects.
  • Capacity building of water user groups

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Degree/Diploma in Water Engineering, Water supply or Hydrogeology or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years experience for Diploma holders and two years for Degree holders in working/programming in either relief or development
  • Experience in project design, proposal writing, needs assessments, surveys, and information management.
  • Good understanding of SPHERE and other international standards.
  • Ability to conduct community WASH needs assessment, program planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of WASH activities
  • Proposal/concept paper writing skills for fund raising.
  • Complete compatibility with WV’s mission, ethos, policies and core values.

Project Manager – Livelihoods and Environment

To be based in Kitui

Purpose of the positions:

To lead and coordinate the initiation, development, expansion and overall implementation of the Energy Saving Cook-stoves project in collaboration and in consultation with all the other relevant actors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In consultation with the Livelihoods and Resiliency team, ensure successful implementation of a User Assessment Survey in the two targeted pilot IPAs;
  • Ensure that a successful stove assessment involving different stove models is done in the two pilot districts and appropriate recommendations are made;
  • Ensure that a successful supply chain strategy is designed, to successfully create and meet community demand for the improved cook-stoves in the long-run;
  • Ensure the development of an appropriate marketing and education campaign strategy that will create awareness and necessary promotion activities for wider outreach to the targeted communities and beyond;
  • Lead in the development of a full scale proposal based on the pilot phase and the lessons learnt from the same;
  • Document and/or compile and then file all information related to the Energy savings Cook-stoves project in an easily retrievable and accessible form;
  • Attend regular coordination meetings with the other consortium partners: Food for the Hungry, Compassion International and TIST;

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A university degree in Environmental Management, Climatology, Forestry, Agriculture or related discipline. A masters degree in a related field will be an added advantage;
  • At least five years of relevant experience in a similar or related position;
  • Must be computer literate especially in data analysis programs such as SPSS, EPI Info;
  • Must have a passion for Cook-stoves and related activities;
  • Ability to work and communicate in a cross-cultural environment;
  • Self motivated and ability to make decisions;
  • Strong commitment to WV Values, Mission and Vision.

Project Promoters – Livelihoods and Environment (2)

To be based in Kitui

Purpose of the positions:

To conduct promotional and marketing activities that will create increased awareness and demand for the Cook-stoves, leading to the adoption and general wide usage of the identified and improved Energy Saving Cook-stoves within the area of operation and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In consultation with the IPA Manager and the Cookstoves Project Manager, ensure successful implementation of a User Assessment Survey in the area of operation;
  • Conduct a successful stove assessment involving different stove models in the IPA and appropriate recommendations made;
  • Test different supply chain strategies, that are likely to successfully create and meet community demand for the improved cook-stoves in the long-run within the area of operation and beyond;
  • Develop an appropriate marketing and education campaign strategy that will create increased awareness and necessary promotion activities for a wider outreach to the targeted communities and beyond;
  • Support in the development of a full scale proposal based on the pilot phase and the lessons learnt from the same;
  • Document and/or compile and then file all information related to the Energy Savings Cook-stoves project in an easily retrievable and accessible form within the IPA;

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A Diploma or university degree in Environmental Management, Climatology, Forestry, Agriculture, Sociology or related discipline;
  • At least three years of relevant experience in a similar or related position;
  • Must be willing and able to ride a motorbike as the main mode of transport;
  • Must have a passion for Cook-stoves and related activities;
  • Self motivated and ability to make decisions;
  • Strong commitment to WV Values, Mission and Vision.

Administrative Assistant – Supply Chain

To be based in Nairobi

Purpose of the positions:

Coordinate the activities of Supply Chain Department by ensuring smooth flow of documentation and information to other stakeholders and assist the function for the achievement of set departmental goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive and record all purchase request forms (PRFs)
  • Arrange for and prepare for departmental meetings, and take minutes in the meetings.
  • Invite quotations analyze and place purchase orders for flights and travel, hotel and workshop bookings
  • Assist the Ministry Business partners in writing of LPO’s for goods and services.
  • Prepare data summary for all public open tenders
  • Attend to internal and external telephone calls incoming in the department
  • Maintain a well organized filing and documentation system
  • Raising PRFs and stores requisitions for goods and services required in the department
  • Plan, track and maintain an updated leave schedule for staff in the department
  • Coordinate staff welfare issues in the department.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Degree in Business Administration or any other relevant area
  • A minimum of two years experience in office management and administration
  • Good computer skills
  • Qualification in Supplies Management will be an added advantage
  • Familiarity with supply chain processes and procedures will be an added advantage
  • Qualification in Secretarial courses will be an added advantage
