Job Summary

As a Trader, the role-holder will be required to use his/her discretion to best ensure that the client mandate is executed to the best of the client’s interests.

Main Duties

This challenging opportunity will include the following:

  • Ensuring the timely upload of dealing book into the trading system.
  • Trade execution; ensuring timely execution of buy/sell instructions on both equity and debt.
  • Liaising with institutional clients, i.e. Fund Managers and Insurance Companies with a view of getting back buy/sell equity orders and matching them.
  • Fixed income trading and sales in secondary bond market.
  • Liaising with institutional clients i.e. Fund managers, Commercial Banks, Insurance companies and other corporate clients with a view of getting bond positions and subsequently matching them.
  • Offering the firm’s institutional and corporate clients in both equity and debt advisory.
  • Overseeing all operational back office processes for executed trades i.e. dispatching trade confirmations and contract notes to the HNWI, Fund managers and commercial banks etc by end of day.
  • Provide insight on the prevailing market sentiment and direction.
  • Supporting the business development team when dealing with the SACCOs by providing market insight and information.
  • Assisting the firm’s clientele in managing and monitoring their portfolio performance.
  • Prepare and dispatch to Clients quarterly investment reports incorporating economic and market overview, current portfolio valuation, transactions during the quarter, performance and strategy for the following quarter.
  • Assist the research team in undertaking analysis through sharing of information from own sources.
  • Proactively search for new investment opportunities and bring them for attention of research department for analysis.

Job Specification

The incumbent will be required to possess the following attributes / skills:

  • A strong academic background in a quantitative discipline, economics or finance background at undergraduate level with a desire to further it to postgraduate level.
  • A candidate in the CFA program, or CFA Charter-holder.
  • 3 years experience in trading both debt and equity as well as research analysis.
  • Specialized knowledge of scientific methods of data manipulation.
  • Knowledge of ATS trading platform and the Central Depository System.
  • Advanced Word, PowerPoint and Excel (Macros) would be advantageous, with the ability to produce charts and graphs.
  • Knowledge of P&L, balance sheet and cash flow statements and good understanding of key accounting ratios ,modeling and stock pricing methodologies would be a distinct advantage.
  • Knowledge of technical and fundamental analysis.
  • Have knowledge on bonds, bond pricing and trading.
  • Excellent presentation skills and ability to interact freely at all levels.
  • An all round knowledge of Investment products and services and general operations.
  • Be able to demonstrate a presence in both the debt and equity market.
